How do you determine damage, if any, to an automobile engine with only an estimated 2 -3 quarts of oil in the crankcase? I forgot to check the oil level since my last oil change 4,800 miles ago. There is no change in oil pressure (assuming you have a gauge). I would say your engine should be fine. Make sure you keep a good eye on the oil. Sure, you can change it at 5000 and be okay... for a little while. But it will catch you in the end. Sludge deposits, excessive bearing wear, and burning oil are caused by not changing your oil, and all cause internal engine failure. Careful careful! Engines ain't cheap.....
