  • Can a shop charge you to repair damage they did to your car while doing an oil change?

Ok this is what happened. I took my elcamino in for an oilchange. They changed the oil and when they pulled it out of the garage they jacked around with the shifter and stuck it in gear! They tried to justify it by saying, %26quot;Well not all cars are like that, no matter how you shift they still work, yours needs to be done a special way and we aren't responsible for getting it stuck in gear because you didn't tell us that.%26quot; WTF! I have brought my car in several times and told them this! I didn't on that day but I have before and the guy who did it isn't the one I handed my keys to. They guy I handed my keys too has been told before %26quot;You have to follow through with all the gears even if you don't engage because if you go halfway through one gear and then try to go into another the linkages will jam up.%26quot; AND THEN! This is an easy fix! you crawl up underneath it and realign the linkages, no tools needed. I waited 2 hours for them to make this right before the fatass that f-ed it up approached me and asked if I was going to get someone to come look at it. They tried to say.. oh well we can push it back into the garage later this afternoon and then look at it and tell you how much it will cost to fix it and maybe get around to fixing it tomorrow. What the hell! Its an easy fix and I would have done it myself if i knew how but I've watched my dad do it before and it takes all of what 2 minutes. Aren't they responsible for what they did to my car? Where do they get off trying to charge me and waste my time for something they did!!! They stuck it in 2 gears, refused to take responsibility for what they did, and left me with no car having to walk home 8 miles!!!Can a shop charge you to repair damage they did to your car while doing an oil change? No need to get mad, here is what you do.. ok, you lay under the side of the

Camino and reach over to the linkage on the transmission and put both of

them in the neutral position. Be sure to have a wheel blocked to keep from

rolling over you. The reason it is in two gears because the fork and the shift

sleeve in your trans have lots of wear and your linkage is sloppy.

For a simple fix like this they should not have charged you. Keep an old

towel under the seat for emergency shift linkage adjustment. Can a shop charge you to repair damage they did to your car while doing an oil change?file a complaint with the better business bureau and then sue them in small claims court for damages and fees they are definitely responsible

How often to change your motor oil in a car?

Every 3000 miles, or 3 months (alot of places say). Personally, I believe the truth is more in what the owners manual in your car says. For some cars, 7,500mi. may be suggested if you are just using your car for rural highway travel, in normal temperatures. 3,000mi for bumper to bumper traffic, or very hot (or cold) days, beating on your car, ect. ect. One courier driver I used to know, got 400,000mi out of a ford aerostar, changing it every 5,000 miles. MY QUESTION HERE IS WHAT ABOUT TIME? My second car got it's oil changed last December, but only has 2,000 on the oil. Does time matter that much? How often to change your motor oil in a car?myself every 3000 miles and when its changed you can tell it needed doing.

Or twice a year a have kept to this rule for years and always been fine by me although atm on this car the ol is costing a small fortune.

If you think there is some life left in your oil then see how clear it looks on the stick and leave a bit longer.

And i never and always say never buy cheap oil.You have so much running in there why would anyone want crap turning the parts. How often to change your motor oil in a car?I go by the book--chevy suburban-350-every 3000 milesHow often to change your motor oil in a car?3000 miles is right for regular oil, however, if you are running synthetic oil, then the interval can be longer.

As far as time, change it at the very least once a year in the fall, so that the oil will be able to protect the engine from the winter elements. Twice a year if you are using a straight weight oil, as the viscosity needs are different in winter than in the summer. But %26quot;ALWAYS%26quot; use a quality oil.How often to change your motor oil in a car?info on extended oil change intervals, includes comments from GM: http://www.amsoil.com/redirect.cgi?zo=14

BEST WAY TO USE " SEAFOAM engine flush&" on an Overdue 3.8L oil change 93 bonneville ?

My brother wants me to change his oil. and run 2 cans of of seafoam through his car..

Whats the best and proper way to do this?

Iv used this once, and 4got what i did..and how i did it lol...........

Guidance needed asap!BEST WAY TO USE %26quot; SEAFOAM engine flush%26amp;%26quot; on an Overdue 3.8L oil change 93 bonneville ?Go here: http://www.seafoamsales.com/

Get the instructions that are on the can.

If your brother wants you to use 2 cans, he probably wants one as engine flush, and the other as carbon remover.BEST WAY TO USE %26quot; SEAFOAM engine flush%26amp;%26quot; on an Overdue 3.8L oil change 93 bonneville ?i would definitely run one can through the intake, you can remove the brake booster hose from the manifold and let it _sip_ up the seafoam, if it gets too much too quickly it can stall the engine.

I think it would be a bad idea to put any in the crankcase unless you immediately change the oil, its better i think to put the second can in the fuel tank.BEST WAY TO USE %26quot; SEAFOAM engine flush%26amp;%26quot; on an Overdue 3.8L oil change 93 bonneville ?DO NOT PUT 2 CANS OF SEA-FOAM IN THE OIL!!! It will wash bearing dry and ruin them.

He must mean in his gas. But you can put some in the oil but read can before putting in oil, because I think it is about 4 oz. BEST WAY TO USE %26quot; SEAFOAM engine flush%26amp;%26quot; on an Overdue 3.8L oil change 93 bonneville ?Just do a normal oil change. Engine flush will remove the sludge build up that's keeping all your seals from leaking.BEST WAY TO USE %26quot; SEAFOAM engine flush%26amp;%26quot; on an Overdue 3.8L oil change 93 bonneville ?Instructions are on the can.....honest.

Don't run it forever or you'll end up with major problems! How much does it cost for a typical oil change for a saab?My Saab oil change is about 55-60$. I don't recommend taking it to a run of the mill quick change place. Take it to a shop that specializes in Saab. (I recommend doing this for all things concerning your Saab.) Use the oil your manual tells you to use. DO NOT USE FULL SYNTHETIC. They will have what you need. I change my oil every 4000 miles and follow the guidelines listed in the manual. New or used car engine option: Had an oil change done. The next day, engine "seized?" on major highway.

Smoke billowed up sides of car. Got out with child and pet. Reputable mechanic determined that wrong engine oil filter was used causing all the oil to come out. There was no oil in car when arrived in mechanics shop after tow. Est. cost to replace with new engine $5,700; used engine $3,700. Car is 2001 Camry with 73,000 miles. Need advice. How am I made %26quot;whole%26quot;?New or used car engine option: Had an oil change done. The next day, engine %26quot;seized?%26quot; on major highway.I was extremely lucky years ago. Went to national oil-change place, and just before they brought out my car, they discovered they'd put the wrong filter on, so I'd have ended up like you!!

Definitely sue. Try going to %26quot;%26quot;Handel On the Law.com%26quot; (minus any spaces), look up in your area a lawyer who will give a free estimate or appraisal of your case.

But I noticed you didn't say WHO had changed the oil. Obviously, if you did it yourself, you're out of luck. If a business did, then sue them.

But if there's no one to sue, then just get another car. Don't think it's worth the hassle of getting new engine. To me, the car would always be %26quot;tainted%26quot;. I wouldn't have faith in the car anymore.New or used car engine option: Had an oil change done. The next day, engine %26quot;seized?%26quot; on major highway.Sue the shop that changed the oil. Either wrong filter or the old rubber gasket was stuck to the engine %26amp; they didn't remove it before putting on the new filter. Tell them you want a new engine, they will probably settle for used.New or used car engine option: Had an oil change done. The next day, engine %26quot;seized?%26quot; on major highway.Did you get a oil light that came on? That would have been the time to pull over and shut the engine off.

I would contact the people that did the oil change and see what they say. If they don't accomadate you, then it is time to file a complaint with the BBB and then to contact a lawyer. Get a statement from the mechanic that determined that the wrong oil filter was used. You should have a good case. good luck.

An upgrade kit was added to my Triumph, how many miles till I change the oil?

I have a 2003 Triumph Bonneville, it has about 22,000 miles on it but that doesn't matter, I installed a Wiseco upgrade kit in it, 800 to 900 ccs. It has a new piston and a new sleeve in the cylinder. I've run it one or two hundred miles. Okay, this is just my thinking, I thought I'd run it a while, a %26quot;break-in%26quot; period using the oil that was in it and then put in a fresh filter and load of synthetic oil. I don't know if people do this anymore. My thought was the oil would pick up any contaminants or pieces of metal, and then would be flushed out with a new oil change. Considering that I've decided to do this already, how many miles would you run it before the new change, 100, 200, 1000 miles, more? thanksAn upgrade kit was added to my Triumph, how many miles till I change the oil?I'd do 500 making sure I didn't lug the engine at all during break in. I'm just wondering if you are running synthetic now. I've heard tell that synth makes bedding of the new rings a problem. I've also heard that switching from dyno oil, if that's what you are using, to synth can deprive seals of certain swelling agents that may cause them to weep a bit. YMMV! Your plan otherwise seems sound. An upgrade kit was added to my Triumph, how many miles till I change the oil?500 miles or less good

  • Please help! I'm starting a little business w/ cars: an at-your-home service oil change, etc? tagline, other?s?

My plan is to offer a service where I will be going to people's homes to change their oil at a discounted price. I will provide the oil and disposal and the whole idea is that it will be convenient for ppl and cheaper! They get to choose the type of oil and oil change they get. I'll also be offering other services such as lubrication, tire gauge check, air, vaccuum, repairs (broken side view mirror, etc) BUT i'll mainly be advertising the oil change.

soo..i have some questions and I would appreciate any help, thank you! These are my questions:

    1) What's a good tagline? I'm so bad at this, but I'm thinking %26quot;have your oil changed at the convenience of your own home%26quot;..id like something that's more catchy though

    2) how can i establish credibility and trustworthiness? i don't have a certificate, but i've been working with my/family's/friends' cars for years.

    3) What title would sound best (most official, most professional)? In other words, what can I call myself? Professional Oil Changer? (I also do other things, so idk about that...) I need a good title, pls help!

    4) How much should I charge for my services?

any other advice? thank you so very much!!Please help! I'm starting a little business w/ cars: an at-your-home service oil change, etc? tagline, other?s?First: Research what the professional oil change services charge in your area. Set up your charge to be somewhat less. You can do that because you don't have a heavy overhead in building and rack rental. You probably will have to buy a ramp to drive their car up on to change the oil, cost of containers and cost of oil disposal. Think about the other costs and set your price schedule accordingly.

Secondly: %26quot;tagline%26quot;? I think you mean %26quot;business slogan%26quot; for advertising purposes. First I'd get a business name. %26quot;John's Home Auto Service%26quot;, then figure out the slogan... %26quot;Save Money, Let John Do It%26quot; comes to mind.

Thirdly: Print up some flyers announcing your new service. Stress it's cheaper and more convenient for you to come to them than they to go to the oil change place and include your lowest price (and make sure you indicate that some changes are more expensive... include something like: %26quot;From 99-cents up%26quot; or the Price and the word %26quot;up%26quot; by it. Pass out the flyers everywhere you can, cars in parking lots at Wal-Mart, on outside advertising boards, Craigs List in your local area (that's free)...

There's more work involved than just going out to change someone's oil and charging them for it... it's called %26quot;the wonderful world of being in business for yourself%26quot;.

Good Luck! Please help! I'm starting a little business w/ cars: an at-your-home service oil change, etc? tagline, other?s?The EPA will be watching you like a hawk and you will need a lic to haul the oil.Not easy to get that kind of a license.Good luck

Kragen/Schucks/Checker sells Mobil 1 synthetic for $6.50 /qt, or Valvoline synthetic for $5.50 /qt. Your truck probably uses at least 5-1/2 quarts, so figure $33 to $39 for the oil.

Look at your owner's manual and see what it says for what your car's mileage is.I have the maintenance light and oil change light on in my Honda Civic, what should I do first?Get the mechanic to check the codes %26amp; reset them.I have the maintenance light and oil change light on in my Honda Civic, what should I do first?Always keep oil changed---the maintainence light is on probably due to a dirty air cleaner so make sure your filters are in good shape--- when the engine is cold check to make sure you have plenty of antifreeze in the radiator---BE SUE YOU PUT THE RADIATOR CAP BACK ON REALLY GOOD!!!If this dont do the trick i dont know what else to tell you---good luck.I have the maintenance light and oil change light on in my Honda Civic, what should I do first? If the light says %26quot;Oil life 5%%26quot;, you can reset it by turning the key to the %26quot;on%26quot; position, press the reset button by the speedometer and hold it down. In about ten seconds it will start flashing. Let go for a second and press it again holding it down. In about 5 seconds it will change to %26quot;100%%26quot;. This is fixing the symptom, though, not the problem. It needs an oil change.

If the light says %26quot;Maint Req'd%26quot;, press and hold the button down, then turn the key to the %26quot;on%26quot; position. The light will go out then back on in a second. When it goes out for good, you have reset it.I have the maintenance light and oil change light on in my Honda Civic, what should I do first? The Maintenance light comes on in hondas when you need an oil changes, hold the milage reset while turing on the car to clear up that light

Steering is malfunctioning after an oil change. Can I take legal action against the people who did it?

So I had my oil changed today at a small car service station half a mile from my house. When they were all done and they said I was good to go, I get to my car and the plastic plate that snaps over my oil tank was on the ground propped against my car. They forgot to put it back in. I had them snap it back in for me and then I left. Then washed my car at their convenient car wash.

I almost got all the way home (remember, I only live half a mile away from this place) and my power steering failed and I couldn檛 turn into my neighborhood. I pulled over to turn off my engine and turn it back on. It worked again. I drove back to the place and asked if they messed with my power steering and what could be wrong with it. Of course, they denied touching my power steering and they came up with the diagnosis that the water from the car wash could have sprayed too much water in the engine and that could cause the steering to malfunction. They said once the water dries up, it should go back to normal. They didn檛 even have a look at my car. I was a little upset that they would give me a diagnosis without even looking. I said okay?and left. The steering failed 4 more times after that.

I have only owned this car for one year and I have driven in pouring down rain with flash floods!! I know water has splashed on the underside of my engine?and I have NEVER ONCE had this problem. And, I have been through that same carwash before! A couple times!

I own an ?5 Saturn Ion with electrical power steering, no fluid involved. Has this situation happened to anyone else? Can water cause the power steering to malfunction? Or was that all a load of bull? If the problem persist, can I take legal action? Can I get the repair done somewhere else and then make them pay the bill? How do I go about doing that?

I personally think that they did something careless. I could have gone on the expressway and gotten seriously injured!! I'm scared to drive my car now.

Any input would be appreciated.Steering is malfunctioning after an oil change. Can I take legal action against the people who did it?i suggest you have your car diagnosed by a qualified mechanic, if he tells you they caused the problem, have him put it on a %26quot;repair estimate%26quot; Then confront the people that changed the oil, if they still deny it have the car fixed, then file a complaint with your local BBB and proceed with small claims at your local court house. Good luck.Steering is malfunctioning after an oil change. Can I take legal action against the people who did it?diagnosis without even looking chnging the cars oil wouldnt have anything to do with power steering and neither would a car wash can you take action wel you would have to prove they done something to cause it to fail which unlikely if you dont trust your shop go else where and have it check but even then wil be hard to say if they done something or not much less prove itSteering is malfunctioning after an oil change. Can I take legal action against the people who did it?As long as you can prove they caused the problem, there is no reason why you shouldn't try to be compensated for the repair. But it's going to be pretty difficult to show proof though. No judge is just going to hear this story and take your word for it so hopefully you have comething more concrete.Steering is malfunctioning after an oil change. Can I take legal action against the people who did it?Sounds fishy. Even if they didn't touch it, the fact is you came to them with a problem and they did nothing about it. that there should have some significance. I mean your steering is kind of an important thing so you could get them on endangerment for failing to take care of a problem.Steering is malfunctioning after an oil change. Can I take legal action against the people who did it?If you just had your oil changed, it is very unlikely that they did anything to the power steering. No reason to. Probably a coincidence. Actually, this is why I quit being a mechanic 35 years ago. I would replace a water pump and next day, maybe the heater blower wouldn't work and the owner would swear I did something because it worked fine before.

what do you think about a Mobile oil change service?

I am doing a survey to see how many people would use this service.I have been to walmart and jiffy lube and had to wait 2 hours to get a oil change. So i decided to reserach this idea and found a company that offer a van, equipment and training for 15,000.With tihis service we will come to you.Our customers would be individuals, business complexes and small fleets. We would offer the same service as jiffy or walmart but the difference

is that WILL COME TO YOU.Saving you time and at your convience. All response are important, thanks for you opinion.Would you use a mobile oil change service?Never bring your car to a jiffylube or any oil change place, do it at the dealership and give them the oil or do it yourself.

The oil they put in your car at a jiffylube is pure crap oil that kills your car, it takes only 15 minutes to change oil and it's a lot better knowing what oil you put in your car. You have a great idea, though, millions of lazy people will use your service.Would you use a mobile oil change service? One thing....don't try to make all your money from your oil changes! Make it from selling other services like wiper blade changes, light bulb changes, spark plug/wire changes, air filters, etc.

I would use the service personaly. From an investment stand point it doesn't seem like their are many barriers to entry though. Your not very protected from some one else doing the same thing.Would you use a mobile oil change service? It's not a bad idea, I could definitely see the elderly, wealthy, and the very busy using this service (You'd probably want to live near these types of people). But, I wonder how much money is really in it for you? I could think of a few problems that could arise from working at other peoples homes, such as oil spills on their drive way etc..

Don't forget you have to pay for gas to drive to these peoples homes. If it's too pricey people may just suck it up and take the car to a cheaper place.

How much does a regular oil change at wal-mart cost?

Is it a good place to take your car? I drive a 2008 Corolla, I just want a cheap %26amp; quick regular oil change. Does anyone know how much it costs? Last time I took it, it was around $21 I believe. K thanks =)How much does a regular oil change at wal-mart cost?Wal Mart is the best deal going. 21 bucks? You must be using cheap regular oil in your car. Most people are changing over to full synthetics. The oil costs more but you change it less often. I only change the oil in my Cummings diesel every 7500 miles, but I also use a full synthetic 10w40 oil.How much does a regular oil change at wal-mart cost?18.99 for a small car/truck that takes 5 quarts of oilHow much does a regular oil change at wal-mart cost?somewhere between 20-40 dollars, depends on how much oil.

Do you really need experience to work at a oil change job at 18 years old?

I heard you dont need experiance and they train you,but then i hear you need to have exprience which makes no sense if they train you, well can anyone tell me what you need in order to work at a oil change place, and how much is it an hour for a 18 year old.

Oh and and how much does WAL-MART pay an hour for stocking shelves and i heard it's a 3rd shift job which makes it more comfortableDo you really need experience to work at a oil change job at 18 years old?I can not tell you first hand but I would not imagine that an oil change shop would require experience. They probably would start you out at minimum wage. They only way to know for sure would be to fill out an application %26amp; talk to the manager. I would imagine WalMart would be much the same, although they may have an online source that shows job opportunities available, starting pay, %26amp; benefits.

    Good Luck!

The guy at the national oil change place tried to sell me an oil flush.?

It had been about 6K since my last change. He said the oil was %26quot;pretty burnt up%26quot; and that he saw some %26quot;shavings%26quot; in it. First of all, the car is a 2006 Scion TC, with 30,000 miles. I change the oil religiously, this is the first time I went that far, usually change around 4K. I don't really think there would be %26quot;shavings' in anything, secondly, I fail to see how a flush is really necessary given the cars age. I think he was a lying sack of dirt. What do you guys think? The guy at the national oil change place tried to sell me an oil flush.?It's bunk.... Never do an Engine Flush even if it were old and full of sludge because it would then send the sludge to the oil pan and clog the sump screen and then would starve your engine of oil and cause failure...

If your engine is gunked up bad enough, then it;s time for an old fashioned tear down and rebuild...

This guy is just trying to sell you additional services that they can charge you for....Find another shop to go to....The guy at the national oil change place tried to sell me an oil flush.?idk i change my oil around 3000 or a little less miles, because i have a highmileage car, the only reason id think there was shavings in the oil was if u was dogin it and still u'd have to have alot of metal to metal for it to flake, so i figure it was probably best to stay away from the flush. what was he gonna flush it out with? cause it'd had to be something besides water cause oil and water don't mix. idk manThe guy at the national oil change place tried to sell me an oil flush.?Your right, He's lying.

First off all engines and trans has some metal shavings in them as they wear in. these are very small and is the oldest scam in the books. If the engine is running fine just keep changing the oil as you have been A flush is required only if yo have over heating problems such as you ran the engine with no oil and it got burnt, or you have 100,000 miles on it.

check your owners Manuel for recommendations. The guy at the national oil change place tried to sell me an oil flush.?i think your right, change the oil and then again in about a thousand miles. take it somewhere different and see what they think.the filter should be catching any normal engine wear particles, but it sure should not have shavings with that mileage. its not even brokein yet.The guy at the national oil change place tried to sell me an oil flush.?your right, the guy is a dirtbag and just trying to drum up some extra business and money. The guy at the national oil change place tried to sell me an oil flush.?The only thing resembling %26quot;shavings%26quot; that come out in oil appear during break in. That's why I change oil in new engines at 500 miles or so.

At 30,000 that engine isn't exhibiting anything like shavings. Also, GSA vehicles only get oil changes every 7,000 miles and they don't have

shavings in them once break in is past. The guy at the national oil change place tried to sell me an oil flush.?complete hog wash, as long as you stay on top of your vehicle maintanance, sludge should not be a factor. If you do notice some sludge under your oil cap, and if your car had more miles on it you could add a little ATF to your oil. It's detergents are great at reducing mild sludge. Doesn't sound like you should have anything to worry about.

  • How long can you go without an oil change?

i have a 2005 scion tC and im about 500 miles over my reccomended milage for my next oil change. for the past 3 years ive been very good about oil changes, ive never missed one and have always gotten them right on time.

today my check engine light flashed for a few seconds when i started the car. thats never happend before. it scared me because i have to go until next wendesday without my oil change and i dont know if im over-reacting but im scared!

ive read online that newer cars/oils can go 5-6,000 miles before needing a change so i assumed i was alright...im wondering if the cold start up triggered the light? (it is below freezing here!)

i just need some reassurance or advice on what to do, i dont want my car to blow up! How long can you go without an oil change? The engine light is supposed to come on as soon as you start the car just to test it to see if it's working. As for the changing of the oil, you'll be fine, but get it changed soon. How long can you go without an oil change? You'll be fine with the oil. As for the light, go to autozone and have the code read. How long can you go without an oil change?check your oil if its black on the dipstick then you need to change itHow long can you go without an oil change?Your check engine light has nothing to do with changing the oil. Consumer Reports says you can go over 5000 miles with no ill effects before you have to change the oil. The oil filter picks up little bits of metal or sand from the engine, and the oil wears out after awhile. The check engine light is for other things like the oxygen sensor. I once purchased a car that had over 10,000 miles on it, and the oil had never been changed. It was the best, and most dependable car I ever owned. Don't worry about it, just change it on a regular basis. How long can you go without an oil change?I doubt the oil had anything to do with your light flashing. In fact a flashing light usually means a misfire. You can go 5000 miles on quality oils now but if you are under warranty, I would keep up with the schedule. I go 7000 miles on synthetic oil and have no trouble at all. How long can you go without an oil change? My dear old Grandpa told to change my oil every 3000 miles. How long can you go without an oil change? It depends how much driving you do between then (next wednesday) and now. I would limit your driving if you're over your 500 miles over your recommended. But you should be fine. You should just check your dipstick and wipe it on a white cloth to see how black your oil, if its bad you might want to swap your oil, if not you'll be fine.

    For reassurance...

I usually do my own oil changes but last winter it was damn cold around the time my car was due (of course hey?) so I took it to a shop and they did it for me. month and a half later my car seems sluggish so i get underneath my car and sure enough its the same oil filter I put on the last time i did an oil change. So all they did was swap the oil and I drove on a dirty filter for a month and a half past the due date... long story short you should be ok for another week. How long can you go without an oil change? if you go over 3000 miles the oil viscoucity starts to break down ive seen to manny engines blown up because of this and any jerk that tells you it will be alright ask him if hell replace motor for nothing, include paying for itHow long can you go without an oil change? There is no reason to change your oil at 3000 miles any more in fact most manufacturers recommend 5000 and 7500 mile intervals. How long can you go without an oil change?Ok first i would pop the hood grab the dip stick while the car is cold, black don't matter hell you can change oil and filter start the car cut it off and the oil can be dirty you know,um as far as your light the first guy was right take it to auto zone they will read it for free and tell you what it came on for or take it to some shop and pay them 75 bucks to tell you what it came on for that's up to you and you will be ok on your oil change as long as you have oil in the car the right amount of oil don't let it run with no oil in itHow long can you go without an oil change?at 3,000 miles your oil needs to be changed

Did I just get rooked for an oil change, tranny, and power steering fluid change?

$230! Granted, this was for a synthetic oil change. However, the oil change place hit me (again) with auto transmission fluid and power steering fluid change rec. So, I went for it. This is for a 2005 Chrysler T%26amp;C (caravan). I have about 77,000 miles and haven't done these changes since I bought it new in '05.

In general, is this kind of stuff necessary on this kind of vehicle? Also, how hard would it be to do it myself? They said they had some sort of pump for the power steering, etc. I don't have that, but I do have a pretty good toolset, jack, etc. I've got another car (2000 SAAB 9-3) that has about 60,000 on it. So, I also want to know what I need to do on it at this time beyond the usual repairs and oil changes. It has a manual transmission. Thanks for any help!Did I just get rooked for an oil change, tranny, and power steering fluid change? That is a chunk all at once but they should be done. The price does not seem out of line for what they did. As for doing it yourself, the trans fluid is hard to do since you should flush the cooling lines and the torque converter as well. That is why they use an in-line fluid exchange while the car is running.

The Saab should also have the fluids changed but the manual can be done by you since it won't have cooling lines to mess with. I'd wait untill I needed a clutch and do it when the trans is out.Did I just get rooked for an oil change, tranny, and power steering fluid change?all you need is a bucket to catch the oil manual transmissions no advantage in changing the oil.. power stearing change oil what a rip off.. synthentick oil is not needed.. if you change the oil every 3 thousand and the filter.. use a straight viscosity 30 in the winter 40 and 50 in the summer.. all you need is a 5/8 wrench to open the oil drain.. the used oil place in a five gallon can.. the places that change oil will take it and put in their tank no charge.. buy penns oil or valvoline ok .Did I just get rooked for an oil change, tranny, and power steering fluid change?tranny fluid is recommended every 30,000 p/s flush recommended every 15,000. trans isnt hard just drop the plug drain the oil and put plug in and refill p/s needs a pump to pump out fluid and refill. foreign vehicles normally call for maintenance services every 30,000 miles call dealer for a service menu. do not flush if you havent done it from the start could damage trannyDid I just get rooked for an oil change, tranny, and power steering fluid change?Referring to the owner's manual for recommended maintenance intervals is the only way to know for sure if they told you to change the fluids before they actually needed to be changed. As far as I know, however, most modern automatic transmissions don't require a fluid change that soon (and they don't require the P/S fluid to be changed that soon either...)

You can change your own oil at home using a set of ramps, an oil collection pan, a crescent wrench (for the oil plug) and a filter-wrench for the oil filter in less than 30 minutes. As long as you have somewhere to dispose of the oil (like Autozone or a local recycling center), it's easy. Changing other fluids can be more difficult - often times it's easy to drain the fluids (like in a transmission), but hard to re-fill them.Did I just get rooked for an oil change, tranny, and power steering fluid change?Okay as a mechanic, I say every 30000 miles you need to get your tansmission serviced. but thats only on an automatic. the power steering flush i dont understand unless the fluid was burnt up. The amount is not that bad because of the amount of work and the prices of synthetic oil. But these are all things you can do. you do have to be very careful when you do a trans. service though. oil change is no problem. but if you hve the right guy looking at it when you go in he can inform you of a major problem you might have in the future.Did I just get rooked for an oil change, tranny, and power steering fluid change?Sounds like they they took you for a ride in you own car and you don't remember. You should be able to get a service manual from your local library to help you. doing the oil changes is not too hard once you have done it it will be easier next time

As for a pump a large syringe with a plastic tube attached will do. Nearly all the cheep tools you can get from your cheaper auto shops

Do you really need to get a oil change every 3000 miles?

I went over about 1000 miles, because I been to busy. I was just wondering how important it is to do it consistently, or is it just reccomended?Do you really need to get a oil change every 3000 miles?Generally, especially in newer vehicles, I'm not a believe in the 3000 mile change. I do mine about every 5000 miles. Unless you're driving in really dusty conditions or your only trips are short (less than 15 minutes) I think 3000 miles is a bit premature. Note that most manufacturers recommend every 7500 miles except under extreme conditions. Dealers always try to make excuses for why the environment where they're located is extreme conditions but usually it's not. If you're consistent doing your changes between 3000 and 5000 you'll be fine. Don't go longer, because consistent oil changes are one of the most important things you can do to help the life of your vehicle.Do you really need to get a oil change every 3000 miles? It's better to do it consistently, it's not something recommended. Though, I do not recall what the reason is right now.Do you really need to get a oil change every 3000 miles?no....used to be every 6000 miles...now it is 3000...you are okDo you really need to get a oil change every 3000 miles?look in your owners manual for the manufacturer's recommendation. (I'd bet it's higher than 3000 miles)Do you really need to get a oil change every 3000 miles?1 yes /no

if you use synthetic oil on a fairly new car [less than 10 yrs old, less than 100K mi] most car makers say 6000 to 7500....read your manual!!!!

regular oil 3 to 4K is recommended...

remember to check oil every 1K...the first QT goes slow the rest fast leading to engine loss.Do you really need to get a oil change every 3000 miles?Every 3000 miles is recommended because it needs to be done.

You don't want to wait until the old oil is completely black or tarnish build up will cause premature problems with hydraulic lifters.

On cars with adjustable cam shaft timing it is going to cause problems with engine codes setting because the camshaft solenoids which are oil actuated fail when dirty.

Oil changes are a pain in the butt. It's is one of the few cheap maintenance items you can do that really extend a motors life and it's not a good way to save money or a smart thing to ignore.Do you really need to get a oil change every 3000 miles? There are almost no circumstances where you really need to have your oil changed every 3000 miles. Refer to your owners manual for more specific guidance.Do you really need to get a oil change every 3000 miles? You should be fine. I wouldn't let it go beyong 5000 on a regular basis though.

Oil in your engine has a threefold purpose: First, it lubricates the moving parts. Secondly, it helps cool the engine. And finally, it carries away contaminants such as carbon, microscopic metal shavings, etc. The oil flter catches and removes most of these contaminants; however, when it gets full or when particales are too small for it to absorb, they remain %26quot;suspended%26quot; in the oil, and the only way to get rid of these contaminants, which can cause wear on your engine or sticking internal parts, is through oil and filter changes. By the way, never just change the oil. Always change the filter as well.Do you really need to get a oil change every 3000 miles? No, my 2008 Tundra manual recommends 5000. The amount varies by manufacturer, weather for your location, how you are driving it, etc. So I will cover some of these variables...

Weather, if you are driving consistently in very cold temperatures(below freezing). You should change it every 3-5000 miles without question, this applies to any car. Here is the why...once your motor oil is used for a set period of miles it starts to break down easier and becomes less effective in colder and hotter temperatures. Example...in extreme cold, the oil will actually become thicker at a higher temp. There is more to this, but I'm not a scientist, so I won't pretend, just trust me it becomes less effective.

How you drive...if you drive mainly in the city and accelerate quite fast(like to be at the front of the pack). You should change it every 3-5000 miles without question, this applies to any car.

If you drive on gravel or dirt roads...You should change it every 3-5000 miles without question, this applies to any car.

If more than one of these points applies to you, change it every 3000, but if you occasionally go beyond this by 1-2k you will be fine.

Good luck!Do you really need to get a oil change every 3000 miles? No, just check it on the dipstick and when it is dark or black, then change it. Usually 5,000 miles.

Who regulates the fast oil change places in lubbock texas?

I AM CONCERNED THAT ALL THESE FAST OIL CHANGE PLACES DO NOT USE THE SPECIFIC OIL CALLED FOR. I RECENTLY PUT MY CAR IN THE SHOP AND THEY ASKED ME HOW LONG IT HAD BEEN SINCE I HAD AN OIL CHANGE. (IT HAD ONLY BEEN 1 WEEK) MY CAR USES FULLY SYNTHETIC OIL (OR I THOUGHT IT WAS USING THAT, I HAVE BEEN PAYING FOR THAT) HE TOLD ME THAT MY OIL WAS VERY DIRTY AND IT THERE WAS NO WAY THEY USED FULLY SYNTHETIC. NOW , WHO AM I TO TRUST AND HOW DO I GO ABOUT UNDERCOVERING THE REAL TRUTH IN THIS SAGA?Who regulates the fast oil change places in lubbock texas?First, when I go to an oil change place, I put the cheap stuff in my old truck so I could care less what brand or type they put it. So, when I am there, I sit back and read the paper or watch t.v. The lousiest grade they have there has got to be better than what is left in my engine. The cheaper the better.

Now, if I was paying $10, $20, or more extra to have synthetic added (normally from a bottle instead of the bulk tank), then I would watch to insure that they were doing it. For $10 a quart, I want them to treat me like a fine wine connoisseur. They should pour it in a glass and let me take a whiff as I swirl it around, smelling the bouquet. Not only could someone cheat you out of the synthetic, it could just be a mistake on the outside person putting the wrong oil in. Not a lot, but mistakes do occur.

Now that you suspect that they have made a mistake or are cheating you, you should go back and investigate for yourself if you see people paying for synthetic, are they truly getting it? See if you can find someone that you know that uses the same place and also uses synthetic. Go with them and watch closely. If they are dishonest, demand that they change your oil correctly this time and watch them like a hawk. Then, if you have seen lots of evidence of fraud, report them to the BBB.

It's a non-dedicated (the battery light shows up in the same square when the key is on and the engine off) orange square light about 1%26quot; square that is in the instrument cluster and there are absolutely no switches for it. I think it has something to do with cycling the key and a certain number of times pressing and releasing the gas pedal but I'm not sure. How do I reset the oil change reminder on my Chevrolet 2004 Monte Carlo LS?Got ya covered on this one! So here you go-

Starting with the key off, turn it to the run position where all your dash lights come on (do not start) when your dash lights come on you have 5 seconds to push the gas pedal all the way to the floor 3 times and wait a few seconds and then turn the key to the off position, and then start it up, it should be gone!

Now there are a few that when you are done hitting the pedal 3 times and wait a few seconds, you do not turn the key off position, you just leave it in the run position and then go ahead and start it up.

But that will take of it. Please don't forget to vote!

How much do you make working at a oil change station?

Might apply for some jobs around town.

I am certified to do the job through the school im attending.

    Only 17

Can you guys shoot me some ballpark wages? How much do you make working at a oil change station? This is a loaded question and u might not even know it. Oil change jobs are usually minimum wage, HOWEVER they ARE the start of an automotive technician career. Make your 8 bucks an hour now, then in about 2 years, you could easily jump to another job making 15.... I was a lube tech for nine months, then got this job at a dealership and im slamming down 14 bucks an hour.

Problem with an oil change on a Buell Blast 2001...?

I've never changed the oil on anything before so if there's something you're not thinking of because it would be too obvious, please still mention it.

I drained the oil (I was showed how by a mechanic at HD briefly), changed the oil filter, and added oil. However, I added a bit too much oil and decided to deal with this problem the next morning.

When I woke up, a forgot to drain the extra oil so I did that, however, I first attempted to start the bike (because I forgot) and it wouldn't start. I couldn't drain all the extra oil either, I'm guessing since the oil isn't warm, it's not coming out that quickly.

Anyway, my bike won't start anymore. I ONLY touched things to do with the oil. When I turn the bike to ON, the lights come on, but when I try to start it, the lights dim a bit and it whines and won't start. Usually the oil light comes on when it's not started, but now after attempting to start it, it permanently turns off until I turn the bike off and on again.

Any thoughts?Problem with an oil change on a Buell Blast 2001...?open both drain plug and fill plug to let air in then put right amount in . pull spark plugs out and clean they could be oil soaked. make sure you turn the gas on. you could put a teaspoon of gas in each cylinder. before putting spark plugs back in good luck

Do i need an oil change even though I have not met the 3K rule?

I used to change my car oil 1999 CIVIC EX 110K miles on it every 3K miles, but I purchased a new car in march 2009. So i use my civic like once in a blue moon, and when it snows like today, I'm from Jersey. My car oil change was due like 8 months ago, but out of the 3K miles on it, I have only put in 280 miles on it! Also should I start my car everyday and if so for how long, and also how much should I drive so it doesnt rust or have problems. My car is in mint condition. So I like to keep it that way. With the rate I'm going to reach the 3K oil change like in 2012 or 2013. Advise suggestions! Thanks! ! ! !Do i need an oil change even though I have not met the 3K rule?Oil is not about time, as it sits in a jug before entering your engine. Point being it sits in your engine just like a jug. Should start and drive car at least once per month, just to lubricate wheel bearings and such. at least 20 minutes or more. Should change oil at least once per year. luv serDo i need an oil change even though I have not met the 3K rule?no geniusDo i need an oil change even though I have not met the 3K rule?your owners manual will tell you how often you need to change your oil! jiffy lube and other oil places want you in every 3000 miles or a set time period! This is all bullshtt! Check with your owners manual and do what it tells you! most cars can go up to 7000 miles without needing an oil change! If I were you I would drive your little honda around the block at least once a week! It help to keep everything lubercated and not dry out! If gaskets dry out then they will start to leak! If you don't drive the car much, sell it and go on a vacation and get out of the snow!Do i need an oil change even though I have not met the 3K rule?that 3k mile rule, is not a rule at all, cars are actually designed to go about 7500 miles before you need to change your oil, and idc what anyone says about that, its the truth. im doing an internship at a gm dealership and have more experience under the hood of a car than just your average poster here.

if you dont dive it more than a few times a month or every other month be sure to start it and let it run for 5 minutes at least once or twice a month and everything will be fine.

you wont need to change the oil for a while to go, but the longer its sitting out in the cold weather the worse it will be. oil DOES GO BAD, it separates and thats just not a good thing to have sitting in your car.

When did Mobil service stations use tin oil change reminder stickers?

I was cleaning out a storage unit where I work and found a box of what appeared to be trash. I rummaged through it and found a tin(?) oil change reminder sticker from a Mobil service station. Was just trying to find out how old this may be or if anyone remembers these being used. When did Mobil service stations use tin oil change reminder stickers?Wow!, I started driving in the 60's and I sure don't remember them, it had to be before the 60's.

  • When to change oil on a 2004 BMW 330ci?

When to change oil on a 2004 BMW 330ci? 3,000 or 10,000? The car indicates when its time to change the oil, but i would like to know ahead of time and the manual does not show how many mileage when it is due. I know Mercedes can go 10,000 miles until it needs an oil change. Any advice will help, thanks! When to change oil on a 2004 BMW 330ci?The average interval is about 15,000 by the indicator. But, I have had many valve covers off on 325s and 330s with close to 100K that have done their oil every 15K and every time there is quite a bit of sludge build up. Personally, I recommend every 7500 to 10000 miles. If you drive your car aggressively consistently, you can usually get away with the 15K interval. For some reason, cars that are driven hard usually end up cleaner than the cars that are babied.

Also, you should change your oil annually if you don't reach the mileage. I recommend Castrol Syntec 5w30 for that car. Just get an OEM filter, they're not that much. That motor takes 7 quarts of oil. When to change oil on a 2004 BMW 330ci?There is no fixed interval on any BMW in the past 15 years or so. The lights on the dash take into account certain factors (depending on what year the car is) Doing it at 3,000 is certainly a waste of oil and money. Just make sure you use a BMW approved (LL-01 or LL-04) synthetic oil and a quality filter (I don't see any reason not to get an OEM or Mahle filter) and you should be fine.

With all that said I would still change the oil at 10,000 miles if the light hasn't told me to yet. When to change oil on a 2004 BMW 330ci?sure any car can go that long but better to change it sooner most people do it around 3000 to 5000 miles i think mobil 1 test got up to like 18,000 miles before oil broke down but you dont want to do that so before is betterWhen to change oil on a 2004 BMW 330ci?Average is 15,000...your car tells you and it's based on your driving habits how fast the indicator goes down...When to change oil on a 2004 BMW 330ci?depends what type of oil

When do you REALLY need to change oil?

So I'm about 5000 miles over the little sticker on the window from the last oil change at a shop. I just want to know how long you can go to the max, and when it's best to change after new oil.

Also, when is it best to just buy oil at a store and put it in yourself? When do you REALLY need to change oil?I'd cap it at 5,000 miles, so get it done soon. With the quality of oil nowadays, 3,000 mile intervals are not really needed. When do you REALLY need to change oil?Nobody seemed to consider using the high quality synthetic oil. It cost a more but last much longer. When you factor that, it works out to about the same cost.

When do you REALLY need to change oil?yes its cheaper but you should change your oil every 2000 miles it also depends the quality of oil you put in itWhen do you REALLY need to change oil?It depends on your environment and how you drive. If you do a lot of short trips in a ho climate then I would have changed it sooner. If you do nothing but long freeway trips in a mild climate then you may still be okay. All I know is a car cost a lot and a $20 oil change is worth doing to keep it going so why not get it changed? That way you know for sure it's good for another 4000-5000 miles without worrying about it.When do you REALLY need to change oil?I used to take the vehicles for a state agency in for servicing (I'm not a mechanic, btw). If you plan to keep the car awhile, change the oil and filter every 3,000. Many will disagree and say every 6,000, or whatever.

It's not that expensive to have done. It's even cheaper when you do it yourself. The state tried to save money by having the oil changed every 6,000 miles and I had many, many more mechanical problems to deal with. It cost a lot to have the repairs done, and the oil had to be changed anyway.

I'm sticking with every 3,000 for economy's sake. You'll have less trouble and repairs in the long run. When you take it in for the oil change, don't fall for the sale pitches trying to get you to change your brake fluid, steering fluid, and stuff you know you don't need. The owner's manual gives you the scoop on all that.

If you keep all receipts on oil changes and repairs, it's also easier to get more money out of your car when you decide to sell it. Buyers love having all the information on the cars. When do you REALLY need to change oil?You don't need to do it NOW. But the damage builds up. So after the damage (because you didn't do the engine oil change for 10K) then there's no way to reverse it unless you rebuild your engine (VERY EXPENSIVE).

So the point is to do it BEFORE ANY damage is done.

    ===

My 94 Civic has 187K miles and the engine and tranny runs like NEW. Without proper oil change it would not last 50K to 100K miles.

Good luck...When do you REALLY need to change oil?I have changed my oil and filter every 2,500 miles and my engine has well over 250,000 miles on it and still runs like brand new. When do you REALLY need to change oil?I assume you're probably at 8000 miles since your last oil change now. That's really pushing it for a conventional, non-synthetic oil. I would take your car in at your earliest convenience to have the oil changed. If your car doesn't leak, burn or otherwise consume any oil and you don't mind spending a bit extra, consider trying a good synthetic oil. Not only will a synthetic oil last longer before it needs to be changed, you can also help squeeze extra fuel economy out of your engine with synthetic oil in the crankcase. When do you REALLY need to change oil?You should get your oil changed every 3,000 miles or 3 months whichever comes first.

You shouldn't push it to the max, your killing your car. All drivers and cars are different so it would be hard to say when that would be.

Oil change places are required by law to use a grade of oil that meets or exceeds car manufacturers requirements for all cars., no matter what year they are made.

If you change your own oil make sure you use the right grade oil for your car and remember most states have a used oil disposal fee.

When do you REALLY need to change oil?If you drive in stop-and-go traffic every 3,000 miles or 3 months, whichever comes first. I change mine every time it gets pretty dirty though. (Usually around 2,300 - 2,500). It's cheaper and easier to take it to a shop, not an %26quot;oil change chain store%26quot; such as Jiffy Lube. Take it to either an independant shop or prefferably a dealership that knows your vehicle inside and out. If you take your car to a good shop they will look over your vehicle for anything wrong to try to make money off of it. If you decline repairs atleast you know something's wrong. When do you REALLY need to change oil?You can change it as little or often as you want just so long as you are prepared for the consequences. Those consequences would be dramatically reduced engine life. When do you REALLY need to change oil?regular oil - 5000 miles

    synthetic blend - 7500 miles

    synthetic oil - 15,000 miles

    with a by-pass oil filter 25,000 miles

If you just let it go, it's a roll of the dice. I know one girls who didn't change her oil for 130,000 miles. She just added oil when it got low.

I get all my oil and filters at Walmart. DIY for $15.

Do I have to buy an oil change kit everytime I change the oil on my 1971 Superbeetle?

this is the first time I will have changed to oil on my car, I used to take it in to get it done. but I would like to safe myself a little money. after researching the know how I learned that you need a oil changing kit which includes repalcement gaskets. So do I need to replace those every time I change the oil. and how offten should I do so?Do I have to buy an oil change kit everytime I change the oil on my 1971 Superbeetle? You need the kit for every oil change. It should contain the large gaskets that seal the sump plate with the 6 nuts, gaskets for the 6 nuts, and the copper gasket for the drain plug. It is advisable to clean the screen every oil change because there is no oil filter.

The kit is a definite necessity. This area is prone to leakage around the plate and nuts, and you cannot tighten the nuts very much since the engine block is made out of soft metal (magnesium/aluminum). If you torque these nuts tighter than manufacturer spec then you may strip the stud out of the engine block, and then you are on the way to a severe headache. If someone not familiar with VW has been changing oil for you, it is possible that they have never removed the sump plate to clean the screen, or that they removed/replaced it and stripped studs out of your engine. On my car a few of the 6 studs/nuts were replaced with sheetmetal screws and bolts. That's not something that happens everyday with every mechanic, it's just something you might run into since it's a 37 year old car.Do I have to buy an oil change kit everytime I change the oil on my 1971 Superbeetle?never heard it call a kit but oil and a filter. what gaskets are you referring to. Most people change there oil and filter somewhere between 3000 and 5000 miles.Do I have to buy an oil change kit everytime I change the oil on my 1971 Superbeetle?Yes you do need to replace the gasket every time. Some guys just drain the oil and put in a new washer. At the shop I worked for years ago that was a big no no. The gaskets tend to leak if you do not change them and you need to check the screen every time. Change the oil every 3 thousand on that car. If your car has the drain plug take it out first once the oil stops drain take the plate out. Some oil will remain so be careful, clean the plate and the engine making sure you get all the old gasket off. Do not over tighten the nuts that hold the plate to the block!Do I have to buy an oil change kit everytime I change the oil on my 1971 Superbeetle? We changed ours every time. You won't be sorry if you take care of it, it will run forever.Do I have to buy an oil change kit everytime I change the oil on my 1971 Superbeetle?yes u have to change the gaskets but u dont need a kit use gasket materal and cut ur own

What is the oil change interval for a 2000 Ford F650 with the 7.2 Caterpillar Diesel?

And if anyone knows, how many quarts of oil does it take? What's the recommended viscosity and what would the average cost be to have the oil change performed?

ThanksWhat is the oil change interval for a 2000 Ford F650 with the 7.2 Caterpillar Diesel?I believe you refer to engine oil change interval. 10,000 kilometres if you drive the highway, much shorter interval if you drive along/through dusty places

The ambient temperature where you drive determine the viscosity of the engine oil you need. A multi-grade like SAE 0W-40 would suit a wider temperature fluctuation

If you do it yourself, it is the cost of the engine oil, the oil filter (replace this as you change the engine oil), the hand tools, that is about all

What are all the items i need to constantly change for my car and how often?for example: spark plugs, oil etc?

i would like to make a spreadsheet of all the items i need to keep track of and swap out. i do not know much about cars, but i would like to know when something comes due and that it needs to be changed out. the only thing i really already know is the oil change every 3000 miles, but what about spark plugs, filter and the rest? thanks for all your answers! What are all the items i need to constantly change for my car and how often?for example: spark plugs, oil etc?It really depends on the car but a general rule of thumb is, oil and oil filter at every 3k, engine and cabin air filters every 15k, fuel filter every 15-20k, spark plugs 30k for regular, 60-90k for most platinum spark plugs, PCV valve 15k, rotate tires and check brakes 5-6k, lube chassis, suspension and locks 15k, check tire pressures weekly, check lighting weekly and replace wiper blades annually. Belts and hoses should be replaced at 60k or 6yrs and timing belts range from 60-110k if equipped and depending on year, make and model. Sorry, almost left out the transmission fluid, 15k if you tow and 25k under normal conditions. What are all the items i need to constantly change for my car and how often?for example: spark plugs, oil etc?It should be in your owners manual.

If you don't have one, someone may be able to tell you if you clue us into what kind of car you have as different cars have different requirements. What are all the items i need to constantly change for my car and how often?for example: spark plugs, oil etc?Ideally, the air filter should be checked everytime you fill up at the pump, but of course the world isn't ideal. You should check it at least once a month because I'm sure your driving areas can change in that time frame, thus exposing your filter to different elements.

I would check everything else (spark plugs, all other fluids, hoses, PCV valve, etc) every 15,000 miles to be safe, and change them out if it looks abnormal. Your manufacturer should provide you with a time frame of service intervals for each thing in the owners manual. What are all the items i need to constantly change for my car and how often?for example: spark plugs, oil etc?if it is an auto trans you need to change the filter in it every 250,000 miles unless you don't mind buying a new one

i have a 99 honda civic and I was wondering how often should i take my car to oil change %26amp; what happen if i miss one time of oil change? Is that bad for my car? thanks.Does anybody know how often we should oil change our car?you don't have to change it every 3 months or 3,000 miles. you have an older car, so I'm assuming you have high mileage on it. make sure you get the high mileage oil put in.Does anybody know how often we should oil change our car?they say every 3,000 miles. If you never change it the oil will get dirty and fail causing major engine damage. I don't think I have it done every 3,000 miles myself but do it about 2-3 times a year.Does anybody know how often we should oil change our car?i change my oil every 3 months or 3000 miles. some people do theirs for a longer time like 6 months or 6000 miles. the more frequent the better. the older the oil, the more contaminants it will obtain. dirty oil will harm your engine, costing more to fix it later on.Does anybody know how often we should oil change our car?If you take frequent short trips or spend a lot of time ideling in stop and go traffic change your oil every 3 thousand miles. However if you drive mainly on the highways at constant steady speeds you can wait until 75 hundred miles or so.Does anybody know how often we should oil change our car?every 3, 000 miles, or every three months which ever comes first, but i let mine go to 5,000 miles and have never had a problem

its not bad for your car o miss one time, my grandfather used to go for 8,000 miles, and he never once had a problem with any of his vehicles

hope this helpedDoes anybody know how often we should oil change our car?I do mine once a year or every 12000 miles Try not to miss it as oil breaks down and loses its efficiencyDoes anybody know how often we should oil change our car?Look, what matters is the amount of oil in the engine more than when it was last changed

The wear from old oil is nothing compared to what happens when it runs low. So if you do nothing else just topping up the oil will avoid a breakdown (never trust the oil warning light but if it comes on, ****!)

I change the oil about once a year which is always a good feeling

To save money I don't bother changing the oil filter. My theory is if the engine's that bad then a new oil filter won't do any good ;)

Checking the gearbox oil is worth doing on a new car or after repairs in the drivetrain.

So if you miss oil change is nothing, as long as level is enough in the engine. Change every 6,000 miles or every year, costs 10 / $20 to do this yourselfDoes anybody know how often we should oil change our car?I think it's hype to change oil every 3000 miles. I have never wasted that much oil in my life of driving. Just look at the oil. If it looks good, it probably is good. If it is gummy, smells burnt , stuff like that, it's probably bad. I had a Toyota truck once, '92 with a V-6. I changed the oil about every 15 to 20 thousand miles. It had 367,000 miles when I sold it. I ran PERFECT. No smoke, great power. But, I always kept it full!!! Though topping off the oil was rare.Does anybody know how often we should oil change our car?Guessing 20,000 per-year=160,000 Close? stay right 3 and 3 (3 Months/3,00 miles which ever comes first) if you think you should go to a heavier oil, try not to go above 15W-40.

    $100+ for an oil change?

When i called they said it starts at $32 but can go up to $100+ depending on the oil you use, is there a difference in the type of oil, are some higher quality and better than others? how does it affect your car? what if you use the basic cheap stuff?$100+ for an oil change?Tranny flush etc cost me a hundred bucks, I have not heard of spending 100 dollars on a simple oil change, but I do stay away from synthetic because it is more expensive and I believe frequent oil changes are better for the engine.$100+ for an oil change?the cost will depend on the car you have . if you have been using synthetic oil you should stay with that and the cost is high. oil change should start around 20 dollars and go up from there. most places do not make a profit on oil change they try and sell you other services and that is where the money is made beware!$100+ for an oil change? Most brands have additives to help reduce friction, the more expensive oil is synthetic blend, but the most expensive is full synthetic.

The higher priced synthetics have even more advanced additives to simulate the benefits of non-synthetic blends, like filling in small pockets in the parts.$100+ for an oil change? What $100??

If you live anywhere near a walmart, go there $20 is about what you will pay. The cheap oil does exactly the same thing expensive oil does. I would not pay anything over $30 for an oil change UNLESS you have a lambo or something of that caliber.$100+ for an oil change?no there is not enough diffance in the oils to make the cost go up as it all depends on how you drive and service the car studies have shown that cars driving the same and undersame conditions there was little to no advantage of using high price oil i sujust you use what you feel happy with and mantain your car often and you find the same every time$100+ for an oil change? Some synthetic oils are quite expensive.EG.Royal purple up to $15/liter X 5=$75 plus a real good oil filter $10 or more. Now labour, pending on where you go=$100+$100+ for an oil change? There are different grades and quality of oil. The rating is on the back of the bottle. I believe the highest rating right now is L. But WalMart's oil is actually really good they use the highest quality. The only real difference in oil are the additives and even then, as a technician, I don't think they make that big of a difference in everyday cars. Personal opinion of course. Shops, like oil, come in different price ranges and quality so my advice would be find the best for your money. Our techs do GREAT work and we're reasonable. Do some research and ask around. The best thing a shop can offer is their reputation.$100+ for an oil change?I'm sorry you got ripped off. I go to Jiffy-lube, get the most expensive highest grade synthetic oil, and the highest performance oil-filter and pay only $75. Do not cheap out on oil, it is the single biggest factor that will contribute to how long your engine lasts. I recommend Penzoil Full Synthetic, it holds up the best of any oil I have tested. In theory you could go over 10,000 miles before changing on it, but I wouldn't go more than 3,000. But then I love my car more than my girlfriend.$100+ for an oil change?I think what everyone is forgetting is there are different types of oil and some cars take more than 5-10 quarts. I'm an Amsoil retailer and where the better grade oil comes in is with less frequent oil changes. I have synthetic oil in my wife's truck and in my car that I only change once a year rated for 25,000 miles with normal driving (15K severe use). I check the color and level every 5K and always easily make the 15K. People have this mentality learned from the past about oil without any real knowledge about the oil, base stocks or anything else for that matter.

I did an oil change on a VW Touareg that cost the customer over $90 because the oil has to meet a certain VW spec (There is a TSB about it -VW502 %26amp; VW 50501) for warranty purposes, make the 10K change interval, it was 7 quarts (8 for the V8) %26amp; uses a filter element which is more expensive. Before people comment about how much an oil change is, you have to look at the vehicle in question and whether or not it must meet a specific manufacturer requirement. If the engine lets go and they sample the oil, especially on highend cars with engines exceeding 10K, they can fight the warranty claim for months if not longer.

Many newer highend cars have actual oil quality sensors that determine the quality by electric conductivity. Regular oil will never meet the long oil change intervals on European cars and used in Europe so obviously the oil is more expensive that will last for the 10K- 13K OEM recommendations. Since 98, all Mercedes Benz vehicles were put on Synthetic oil. I do oil changes on a weekly basis on cars from Kias to Porsches so $100+ oil changes are not unreaslistic by far. Without knowing what you drive, it's tough to guess what it should cost. I hope this helps.

How do you change the oil on a Buell Blast (2001)?

I can't afford to have the oil changed, and it's leaking a little bit at a time, and I need to know how to change it...maybe not drain and replace with entirely new oil (if it's possible not to drain it), I just need a temporary fix until I have money to get the leak fixed. You can tell me how to drain the oil too, if you know, but if you don't know, don't let that stop you from answering!

Thanks for the help. How do you change the oil on a Buell Blast (2001)?To add oil:

Run the motor for a couple of minutes, pull the little plug in front of the gastank and wipe it off, reinsert to read oil level. Hold it up level off the kickstand to check.

    To change:

Use pliers, remove the hose clamp and plastic plug from the oil line that is just inside the swingarm on the Left side of bike.

Drain and add two quarts, run it again and recheck the oil level.

These typically burn some oil so check it OFTEN.

PS: Go to the Buell Blast groups on yahoo, this is probably listed on there. How do you change the oil on a Buell Blast (2001)?check ur owners manual on the right way to read the stick. harley's spell it out real simple how to check the oil. changin the oil is a breeze. get a service manuel and u'll see. except for the 5 and 10k maintaince, i'd do it myself.
