How many miles should you wait before doing your first oil change?

I just bought a 2006 Ford Fusion SEL V6 how many miles should I wait before doing my first oil change I think 3,000 is too long to wait for the first one, and I was also thinking of using all synthetic oil does anyone have any thaughts on this? How many miles should you wait before doing your first oil change? You have a very good point. When I first bought my 2000 Acura Integra Type - R (which was stolen 2 months later :( ) The dealer recommended me to come back so they can change the oil and re-torque my cylinder heads. I guess for a brand new car, this is the time when pistons are making grooves on the cylinder head and some pieces of metals will be filtered but you don't want that floating inside your engine. So I will just give it a change at around 500-750 miles. What you gonna loose? Exactly... Maybe a little life off the engine too..How many miles should you wait before doing your first oil change?it's 3 months or 3,000 milesHow many miles should you wait before doing your first oil change?really, since your car is brand new, newer cars don't need to be changed every 3000. every 5000 for the first 30-40k miles is okay. older the car the more frequently you need to change the oil. technology has improved engine function and ouput to the point where that %26quot;old wives tale%26quot; of 3000 miles is irrelevant.

synthetics are more durable and make the engine last longer than if you were to use conventional oil. it is more expensive but in the long run will be better for your engine.

if you really can't wait 3000 miles then you CAN do it earlier but nearly all mechanics will tell you that you don't need to since it's a newer carHow many miles should you wait before doing your first oil change?the first one should be done anytime between 1 and 3000 that will remove any particles from inside the new engine closer to 1000 is better after all its $30 to keep your new engine healthy do not use synthetic until after 10000 as it is to slippery and wont allow the rings to seat properly after that go for it less friction runs cooler gets better mileageHow many miles should you wait before doing your first oil change?1st oil change at 1000 miles, then at 5000 and every 5000 therafter.

If you choose to use synthetic, you can go every 10,000How many miles should you wait before doing your first oil change? If you drive hard change it at 500 miles

if your an easy driver you can change it at 1500----2000 miles

They say synthetic is good

But I use different oil...How many miles should you wait before doing your first oil change?just wait for a few hundred thousand miles

its 3000 and it aint to long i know people how only change it every 5000 miles and has done it for 60 something years and never hurt a car doing itHow many miles should you wait before doing your first oil change?I would go with the 1000 mileage as stated by someone earlier. And as far as the 10000 mile before synthetic I don't understand where he got his info. Go buy a new Corvette or most European cars and they are factory filled with synthetic. So if you want to use synthetic go ahead. No truth to the %26quot;too slippery%26quot; theory. But whatever you do make sure you use 5w20. That is the only oil that ford uses on all its new vehicles. Most shops know that but just to be safe make sure you ask about it first before someone ruins your warranty. How many miles should you wait before doing your first oil change?Ford uses a semi synthetic at the factory and any dealer that uses motorcraft oil in their service (some don't)

Ford will actually tell you 5,000 miles (rumors from some dealer techs is Ford plans on making it 7500 for all come 2008) .. most recommend 3,000 miles but since you are paying the note, I say whenever you want to.. be it at 1000 miles... I'm a mechanic and did mine personally at 1500 miles first go around and at 190,000 miles on one truck, the motor was still running perfect and the inside was still clean when I sold it (and with no work done on the engine)

But as the fellow above said, Unless you own a explorer, some new mustangs, or some rangers.... You need 5w20 oil .. Ford has had issues with heavier weight oil causing start up noises on their newer trucks as of late

Chevron's drive through oil change. How are their services?

I'm over due for an oil change and need fluids etc checked. anyone have experience with Chevron's drive through oil change? I want to make sure what is needed, is done. (basically I'm fairly clueless) Also if you can stat a ball park figure for the cost? Much appreciated!Chevron's drive through oil change. How are their services? Here I am, hopefully to give you some valuable advise. Take your car to any new car dealer or private mechanic for the services you're after. Fast oil change joints are nothing but %26quot;slip shod%26quot; jip shops! Too many horror service stories dribble out of places like that every day.

If you value your car have a real mechanic do your service work. It will not cost you one dime more to have a pro do it for you.Chevron's drive through oil change. How are their services?I'm not sure as I do my own car maintenance. I would suspect anywhere in the country you can get an oil change, tire rotation, and top all fluids off for 30 bucks or less. If you own a telephone, call a few local shops and ask.Chevron's drive through oil change. How are their services? They might charge you around 30 dollars for the oil change and they will check your fluids and tire pressure for free. They will also try to sell you a new air filter and cabin filter. I recommend buying one from Walmart and putting it in yourself. its easy. Depending on the mileage of your vehicle they will tell you your car needs a tire rotation, radiator flush, fuel system cleaning or what ever other service they offer.

How much does it cost to get a standard oil change at firestone auto care?

I want to get a standard oil change at firestone auto care. I am comparing rates at different auto care centers. They don't have the oil change rates on their webpage, and it's too late for me to call.

Thank you very much. How much does it cost to get a standard oil change at firestone auto care?Should be right around $20 for most cars. Diesels will be higher, cars requiring synthetic oil will be higher.

$20 seems to be the sweet spot for an oil change on most normal cars and trucks. I would not pay too much more unless I was getting other services, like a free car wash or tire rotation. How much does it cost to get a standard oil change at firestone auto care?Surprisingly oil change prices vary depending on where you live. For instance, in Kansas a standard oil change would cost me $20. In Oregon, with the same company and same oil change, costs me $40. Call them before you go.How much does it cost to get a standard oil change at firestone auto care?Should be 20-25 bucks. They'll probably try to upsale you though with a bunch of extra stuff you don't need. It's cheaper, quicker, and less annoying to just do it yourself.

Is it possible to drive a car w/o an oil filter? How did it fall off? Why? who's fault?

I went for an oil change about 10 days ago. My oil light came on and my car stalled. When I had it towed to the nearest auto station, they told me my car did not have a filiter. What went wrong? My engine was damaged and now it is sitting in the shop where I had the oil change done. They told me that their insurance company has to come and investigate. Are they at fault? How does a filter just %26quot;fall off%26quot;? HOw can I get this resolved? Are they responsible for repairng/getting me a new engineIs it possible to drive a car w/o an oil filter? How did it fall off? Why? who's fault? There are only three reasons that an oil filter would fall off.

A) Defective filter

B) Wrong filter installed on the car

C) Improper installation

Unless you provided your own oil filter, the shop is going to be liable not only for the repair of your vehicle, but also for your costs for replacement transportation while the car is being repaired. They should also pay for the towing bill, and the bill at the shop where the car was towed!!Is it possible to drive a car w/o an oil filter? How did it fall off? Why? who's fault?they installed the wrong filter .i just ran into a pathfinder with the same problem the used a filter for a diffent make engine .there is a slight possibility of a defective filter but unlikely.or just a shoddy job, hope this helpsIs it possible to drive a car w/o an oil filter? How did it fall off? Why? who's fault? If all is true, document everything and never go to a %26quot;quick lube%26quot; service shop again! Apparently the mechanic that worked on your car is on drugs and needs treatment. Is it possible to drive a car w/o an oil filter? How did it fall off? Why? who's fault? It is possible, but not for long. Obviously all the oil drains or is pumped out through where the oil filter attaches. I'd say the place that changed the oil filter is at fault, but proving that is an entirely different matter (especially ten days later). Is it possible to drive a car w/o an oil filter? How did it fall off? Why? who's fault?ever who installed the filter may not have tightened it back up right ,that puts them responsible for the damage to it,if it needs another engine in it they will be responsible for seeing that it is fixed back right, good luck with it.Is it possible to drive a car w/o an oil filter? How did it fall off? Why? who's fault?it's 100% thier fault they did thatIs it possible to drive a car w/o an oil filter? How did it fall off? Why? who's fault?well sounds pretty cut and dry that they messed up. Unfortunately don't expect to get out of this for nothing. All the insurance or the oil change shop is entitled to do is get a motor equivalent to what you had. So if you had 100 miles on it they will get an engine from a junk yard with 100k miles on it. If you want a brand new engine forget about it. You, unfortunately, may even have some out pocket expense. It is just the way it works with insurance companies. Just remember that mistakes happen and it is only a car. If they cooperate and give you a loaner until the car is fixed and do fix the car then that is all you can ask for really. It is unfortunate or you and the oil change shop. It will definitely hurt their reputation and also may hurt your wallet too.

  • How important is it to change oil in your car?

So my 2006 Ford Explorer just had the oil change light come on. I am going on a trip in it this Friday-roughly 160 miles each way-and was wondering what harm I would be doing if I don't get it changed before going. I really don't have time to take it to get changed. Thanks for the help. How important is it to change oil in your car?if it is a small red glowing oil 'lamp' type thing. you should really not drive it anywhere besides your closest mechanic to look at it. your engine can have a catastrophic failure if your red oil lamp is lit!How important is it to change oil in your car?it is very important. if the light came on, it is probably low. you will be ok on your trip, but make sure you check your oil and add if it needs it.How important is it to change oil in your car?Are you kidding? Check the oil level before you drive it anywhere, you're gonna burn out the engine. And yes, changing the oil is pretty freaking important. How important is it to change oil in your car?Regularly changing oil of car is most important thing as it increases the life of the car. It should be done on regular basis. How important is it to change oil in your car?be sure it's the oil Change light and not a check engine light or oil pressure/oil level light.

If it's really just an oil CHANGE/maintenance minder/oil life monitor light, then it's not going to be a huge issue if you drive the 400miles or so over the light. Just check to make sure the level is OK before your trip.

If it is a check engine light, or Oil Pressure issue then don't drive it, you need a repair.

Check your manual, it may say something like: light comes on then will go off after 1minute when you have 10% %26quot;life%26quot; left. Only when you are at 0% life will it stay solidly on.

Regardless, the monitor is not actually monitoring the oil, it is just tallying up from the last reset, so there is always a good amount of buffer that the engineers built in (more so if you've used a high quality oil (e.g. synthetic) last change). How important is it to change oil in your car? Most likely, no problem.

Oil needs changing because of the build up of particles and (most importantly) acid (which comes from the combustion process). However, the actual amount varies depending on several factors. If the engine is reasonably new, is lightly used and is operated in clean (dust-free) conditions, the length between services may be extended. On the other hand, if the engine is old (with a lot of blow-by), hard used, and operated under dirty conditions then service intervals should be shortened. Devices used to indicate service interval are unlikely to take these factors into account.

How much will it cost to clean out my engine after the oil cap was left off after an oil change?

    Hi!

I had an oil change done at Pep Boys weeks ago and they ended up not replacing the oil cap after the change. Obviously this caused leakage all over my engine which I didn't notice until after several weeks of driving the car, a Scion XA. I replaced the oil cap when I noticed it was missing. However ever since then my car has been having electrical issues, and seems to be having trouble starting when I turn it on. The dashboard lights will stay lit for several minutes after I first start the car.

My question is how much will it cost and what could possibly be causing the electrical issues? (I know getting oil on them isn't good, but I mean which parts cause those issues?)How much will it cost to clean out my engine after the oil cap was left off after an oil change?fill cap it put new filter on it change in 100 milesHow much will it cost to clean out my engine after the oil cap was left off after an oil change?HOW COULD YOU NOT NOTICE....... it for several wks, THE SMELL WOULD HAVE BEEN SO STRONG OF OIL.......

ASK A MECHANIC.How much will it cost to clean out my engine after the oil cap was left off after an oil change?not much they make engine degreasers you can spray on there and wash offHow much will it cost to clean out my engine after the oil cap was left off after an oil change?i don't think the oil will have anything to do with any electrical problems unless your getting the oil signal light which means your low on oil. i would just have your oil and filter changed again. How much will it cost to clean out my engine after the oil cap was left off after an oil change?LOL perhaps the same brilliant folks at Pep Boys can help you with these electrical problems also? Actually they should do so *for free*.

You have a little fuse box inside the car probably under the dash, but the %26quot;main fuses%26quot; are in the engine compartment, on most cars around the right side fender or firewall.

I don't have your car and I can't point to specific location, but you should borrow a shop manual, you could either check one out at a library or buy one for around $20 at an auto part shop. This will help you know specifically where electrical things are under your hood, and help you decide what YOU can look around at and try and clean up yourself vs what you would ask a shop to do...

And if you go back to Pep Boys and get them to do some cleanup deal for you, so you can check that they did what they said they would. How much will it cost to clean out my engine after the oil cap was left off after an oil change?Don't clean your engine yet. Bring your car to Pepboy and make complaint. If you clean your engine they'll blame YOU for causing electrical problems.

I know alot of cars pretty much waterproof seals on electrical in the engine, but oil are bit different than water.

How much does it cost to get an oil change in mn?

You shouldn't pay more than about

    21 - 25 dollars anywhere.

That should be for the oil and

    the filter.

Don't you have a man to do these things

    for you?

Does anyone know how to reset the oil change sensor on a Ford Explorer?

I took my truck to get the oil changed and the shop that changes the oil always resets the sensor. The shop didn't reset it this time, so my truck keeps giving me the message to change the oil. My car pulls hard to the left after I took it in for an oil change...?

Ok, I drive a 2008 Civic Si. It only has 10,000 miles on it. I took it in for an oil change a week ago. First things first, they forgot to put my oil cap back on. After that fiasco, I had them find me another oil cap. I noticed the oil cap was missing that same day (but after they were closed). So I had to wait a couple of days until I had the chance to go back up there.. then another day until they could get me the cap. I haven't driven my car for a while since then, so I didn't realize that my car now pulls hard to the left. It didn't do that before I took it in for the oil change.

    So my question...

what the hell did they do to my car? How would taking it in for an oil change cause the wheels to be out of alignment???My car pulls hard to the left after I took it in for an oil change...?Check your tire pressures? You may have run over a nail and have a slow leak.My car pulls hard to the left after I took it in for an oil change...?Maybe tire pressure. or, the could have just messed your allignment up. not sure how, but if you took it to walmart to get the oil changed, then there's your problem. My car pulls hard to the left after I took it in for an oil change...?check the rotor and pads for possible oil spill contamination

  • I have a crush on a guy that does my oil changes at an oil change business....How can I make the next move?

There is this guy that does my oil changes at this place. When I go there to get service done on my vehicle, he has given me signs that he is interested in me. I also am interested in him and have given him signs as well. On the last visit, one of his coworkers gave me a hint that he likes me. Also on the last visit, the 'check engine' light was on after my crush finished a fuel injection cleaning. I noticed it when I turned my car on to leave....Right away I told one of his coworkers about the light and his coworker said come back in a few days and talk to Sam(my crush) if the light does not go off in a few days. When I went back, my crush did service to make the light go off and did another fuel injection cleaning for free. My crush then said to come back again, if my check engine light goes on again. I got the feeling that he wants me to go back there because he is interested in me, but I sense he is shy because when he talks to me, he stutters. Every 2-3 months I go get an oil change at this place. Soon, I will have to go again. How can I make the next move to exchange phone #'s with him? Should I give him a note??I have a crush on a guy that does my oil changes at an oil change business....How can I make the next move?be blunt, foce yourself to ask him out or just hand him your number. make it short and sweet. Anyone get ripped off at an oil change place?

so i go in to get my oil changed at one of those econo-lube places, and the guy tells me i need an engine flush and transmission fluid change. he said the manual transmission fluid was dark, but the funny thing is, i actually do most of my maintenance myself, and i just changed it like 1500 k ago.

LOL, i should have called him on it, but i was just wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences where they try to sell you something you know for a fact that you dont need?

i wonder how many people who dont know anything about cars get screwed by these jerk offs. another thing, to check the manual fluid you need to take the bolt off and actually stick a guage inside the transmission, which will be full of hot fluid. he came back with it on his hand. did he cool it off or something? wouldnt it have burned him?Anyone get ripped off at an oil change place? My favorite is going to a lube place and about halfway through the job, here comes the grease monkey, with your brand new 2-day old air filter in his hands and he tries to sell you a new one. I always tell those guys I have a new one at home in my garage and I'll change it myself later. The people that work at these places aren't mechanics, they are monkeys trained to change oil. I bought a battery from one and it crapped out on me 14 months later. I took it back and told them it had a dead cell. The manager told me the battery was fine, it was my alarm system causing the problem and he refused to warranty it. I took the battery to an auto parts store. They tested it and it had 2 dead cells and I bought a new one from them. No problems since and this was nearly 3 years ago.Anyone get ripped off at an oil change place?I hadn't finished reading your first sentence and I knew you had been ripped off.

These places don't know how to change transmission fluid. There are many different types of fluid, and if you put the wrong one in, your tranny is toast.

The web is full of these stories.

Did you let him change your tranny fluid? Actually all of the horror stories I have heard have been with automatic transmissions, so it may not be too bad.Anyone get ripped off at an oil change place? Those guys are programmed to upsell their extra services.Anyone get ripped off at an oil change place?A good reason to change your own oil. Install a Fumoto valve on the pan and you don't have to worry about the oil pan bolt.

I was a handyman for a house of nuns, and the JiffyLube place they went to said they checked the battery. A week later, the car wouldn't start and I checked the battery, two cells were dry.

JiffyLube Answer %26quot;We definitely checked the battery, so the cells dried out in a week. WRONG!!!!!Anyone get ripped off at an oil change place?you go in to one of those places, stick by your guns. Tell them, %26quot;I'm sure your right about your diagnosis, but my brother does that for me.%26quot; or some such lame excuse. They catch you napping.Anyone get ripped off at an oil change place?I change my own oil for I don't trust the quick lube places. A friend of mine was told that his drain bolt was stripped and the tech actually had a bolt in his hand, what was funny was that the friends truck had a quick drain in it not that stupid %26quot;show to everybody bolt%26quot;. Now what they did was put your old bolt back in and charged you for a new one, which they put the free money in their pocket.

Now not all places do that, there are good shops out there, just be aware that many will push for unnecessary work that you don't need and may not get while you are being charged for it.

If you are going to use these shops just find one whom you feel comfortable with. Ask friends and family members whom they trust and why. A good mechanic will not do unnecessary work but will take care of safety issues. I would test the mechanic like take a vacuum line off or unplug a sensor and take it to them and have them check out the car for you. A good mechanic will find the disconnected part and reinstall the connection and tell and or show you what was found. A dishonest mechanic will try to sell you a not needed part.Anyone get ripped off at an oil change place?Yeah your getting ripped off.

Anyone knows how to do an oil change on a 2006 Volvo S40?

If you are competent enough to do the job properly, then do it yourself. If you have to come on here to find out how it's done, then take it somewhere someone will do it for you. There's no point in messing up a simple job which can cost you dearly in the long run, just so you might save a few pennies...or mabe not.Anyone knows how to do an oil change on a 2006 Volvo S40?you know the dealer dosent do anything special when it comes to an oil change other than take you for what you got. It is not worth the effort to change your own oil when places like walmart and some of the quick lube places exist. You will spend the same amount buying oil and a filter as it would have cost at one of the above mentioned locations to do the entire job. So dont sweat an oil change let someone else do it. Unless you really want to jack up the car from the center eng support and reach under the center of the oil pan and drain the oil next go under the front pass side of the eng and remove the filter cartridge once you remove it pull out the filter and replace the O ring on the cartridge. install a new O ring on the drain plug as well and resecure making sure not to round the plug because it is aluminum then fill the car with oil I dont remember any more the exact fill I believe its 5.2 qts. let the car down start the car and idle for about 30 seconds so the oil can run throughout the engine and check to make sure it is filled properly the dip stick should be right in the front center of the engine with a red handle.Anyone knows how to do an oil change on a 2006 Volvo S40?The oil filter is accessed from the top of the engine, it is kinda behind the power steering pump and altenator, on the front side of the engine, the filter housing requires a 36mm socket to remove, after that you basically drain the oil from underneath with a 17mm wrench, remember to use a new aluminum gasket on the drain plug, then the engine holds about 6.25 qts. of 5w/30 engine oil, volvo recomends castrol. really just better off going to your local dealership and have it done, you ussually also get a brake inspection, tire pressures set, all fluids topped up and an overall beter check of the vehicle, the average oil change at a dealership is only about 45 bucks.Anyone knows how to do an oil change on a 2006 Volvo S40?I guess it depends where you live, because I have an S60, and the dealer is actually cheaper than the Midas near by work. At the Volvo dealership they open at 7 and I can get there before work, watch the news, and they will change the oil, fill all other fluids, tire pressure and check everything else for $29. At Midas, it was $36, and you needed an appointment. So I'm sure it depends on the place, maybe even other Midas locations close to me won't do that, I'm not sure. Regardless, the oil change is more difficult in Volvos compared to other models due to the location. It's towards the passenger side, behind the alternator. Getting to it, to drain the oil, can be a pain, and you'll spend almost as much plus factor in time and effort. . .There are also cheap places to check out for specials, like Walmart or Sears auto centers!Anyone knows how to do an oil change on a 2006 Volvo S40?here's a web site that will help you a lot on doing this, good luck with it http://www.epinions.com/auto-review-6E19Anyone knows how to do an oil change on a 2006 Volvo S40?Sure unscrew the drain plug.

My car sounds horrible after an oil change?

2004 Kia Optima V6 - yes, some might say %26quot;eh, cheap car.%26quot; Yes, it is very affordable but it runs like a dream. I've NEVER had any problems w/ this car %26amp; anyone who ever took a ride in it always acclaimed how smooth %26amp; quiet it was. Well, NOT ANYMORE! This past Friday I took it for its regular oil change %26amp; not soon after, my car started and is sounding like a wreck. The motor sounds ridiculously loud as heck - if I hit 25mph or more, it sounds even worse.

They either messed w/ something else in my car or gave me the cheapest oil out there. I already contacted them %26amp; will be bringing the car in tomorrow. I'm expecting them to say there's nothing wrong w/ my car.. I want them to do a complete diagnostic on it %26amp; give me new oil while I watch!

For those car savvy readers out there - how do I prepare myself for tomorrow %26amp; what should I be ready to tell them - so that I don't end up looking like an idiot who knows nothing about cars (b/c...well... I know nothing about cars).

Thanks for your help!My car sounds horrible after an oil change?I don't know what 'sounding like a wreck' sounds like.

You don't say whether the noise can be heard only while the engine is running, or when you are driving along.

Let me give some hints and tips here:

Cheap oil doesn't have any sound at all, same as expensive oil.

Even if they gypped you and didn't fill with any oil at all, the engine wouldn't make any noise in particular, and your oil warning light would come on.

Diagnostics won't necessarily find a noise. So don't make this a big deal.

You can do a lot yourself; open the hood (bonnet) and start the engine and go and listen to find the place where the noise is coming from. Please avoid any moving parts.

Get a friend, preferably one who knows a bit about cars, to listen with you and try to locate it. If you have to drive to hear the noise, ask your friend to listen out the window and try to find where it is coming from.

Just a wild suggestion; maybe the exhaust pipe has been damaged by them jacking up the car and this is now broken? Check it out.

Basically what I'm saying is; try to find out as much as you can about your problem before you go back to the mechanics place, so you can insist on them fixing it properly. Just throwing it back to them without knowing anything leaves them in charge of whatever they want to tell you.My car sounds horrible after an oil change? If you know how or you need to get someone to check you oil level and just give your car a once over so you have back-up before you go back. I have seen people forget to put oil in car or forget the plug or double seal the oil filter which lead to a major leak. Just protect yourself cause their not out for you their out for them.My car sounds horrible after an oil change?First thing you need to know is if there is oil in it, if you don't know how to check it yourself, find a friend that does. It sounds like they didn't put oil back in.My car sounds horrible after an oil change?they may have left oilplug out if they did major problems walmarts is bad about that you better check your oil level fast hope not 2 late you need call ones who changed it asapMy car sounds horrible after an oil change?Your problem doesn't sound good, you have a good claim as to where your problem originated but keep in mind the shop that serviced your vehicle could deny any wrong doing on their part, they could claim that you may have been abusing your vehicle after you left their shop, such as hot rodden, leaving stop lights and stop signs like a jack rabbit, ect.ect. but it sounds like you have a good plan and I would do the same if it were me, stand your ground and hope its nothing real serious, good luck.

  • Anybody know how to reset 2003 BMW X5 oil change reminder gauge?

Once my 50000 mile free maintenance is up, I am not inclined to be doing an oil change at a BMW dealership (it is very expensive). My neighborhood mechanic is willing to do it, but he doesn't know how to reset the oil change reminder gauge. The 5 bar gauge that gradually disappears until 15,000 mile is up and reminds you your next oil change is due. Anybody know how to reset that after oil change?Anybody know how to reset 2003 BMW X5 oil change reminder gauge? If you don't get it done at a BMW dealership you can order the reset device from a BMW catalog and do it yourself. It's relatively inexpensive (in relation to how much the service fee is) and it's easy to use.Anybody know how to reset 2003 BMW X5 oil change reminder gauge?Your dealer might tell you if you ask.

See if your local auto shop has All Data or a repair program and it well tell you how to do it.

For model year 2000 or early production 2001's:

Resetting the service lights can be done by one of two ways, firstly specialist tools are available for around $95+ that plugs into the diagnostics port and reset the lights automatically, or you can do it manually using a paperclip or small length of wire. To do it you need to unscrew the dust cover from the diagnostics connector (attached the the suspension turret ) and turn the ignition switch to position two - this is where the accessories come on but the starter motor doesn't engage. Create a short between pins 7 and 19, hold this in position for 5 seconds for an oil service, or 10 seconds for an Inspection. See the picture below - looking at the orientation of the %26quot;pacman%26quot; helps.

Take off the piece of wire and turn off the ignition. When you turn the ignition back on you will see the service lights are all green bars.

One way to make a jumper is to use a 16 gauge wire, stripped on the ends, twisted and then folded over once to make it thicker. Just make sure you don't touch any of the other pins when one is already connected.

The light reset is done not just by time of %26quot;jump%26quot; of the pins but by breaking the circuit after the correct time. To reset Oil Service lights engage for approximately 5-6 seconds then release. For the Inspection lights, engage for approximately 10-12 seconds then release.

    Good luck.

I believe a car dealership stripped my oil pan or plug during a oil change. How can I prove the it?

I brought the vehicle to another place and they stated that before they could perform the oil they noticed that the oil pan was stripped. Who do I believe or trust the former or the latter.I believe a car dealership stripped my oil pan or plug during a oil change. Their attitude will change.I believe a car dealership stripped my oil pan or plug during a oil change. How can I prove the it?A stripped bolt would have been leaking. Chances are it has just gradually worn, and proving somebody stripped it, if it didn't fall out or leak copious quantities of oil will be pretty difficult. A replacement self-tapping bolt of the next size is very inexpensive, cheaper than your time to run around trying to blame someone, and the fix will last as long as your car. I had to put one in an older car, it was cheap, and lasted as long as I had the car.I believe a car dealership stripped my oil pan or plug during a oil change. How do I change the fuel & cabin / pollen filters on an '07 Ford庐 F-150? And where are they?

Just got my oil changed at 15000 miles at the dealership and they tried to make me pay $267 for scheduled maintainence! All I could afford was the oil change. Help! How do I change the fuel %26amp; cabin / pollen filters on an '07 Ford庐 F-150? And where are they?Usually that is all you would need for it is an oil change. Unless your engine is running rough i would not change the fuel filter. if you are having problems with allergies when you drive this vehicle then a change of the cabin air filter might be in order . If not then there is no need to.

Got an oil change other day, and my subwoofer stopped working properly!! did they mess with the ground wire?

i recently had an oil change, and for some reason, my subwoofer stopped working. Im not sure if perhaps when they were under my car, they unhooked my ground wire... has this ever happened to anyone else? The sound is very crackly and not a low boom like it used to.. sometimes it even stops working all together. I dont know if the speaker is gone, but i dont think it is... i play my music loud, and sometimes for long periods of time, but the speaker is of decent quality (DAYTON DVC385-88 15%26quot; DVC SERIES SUBWOOFER) and when i tap on it, it seems fine, and i have always been very careful with it. It is powered by a 980 watt amp.

anyways, i have no idea how to fix it because i had it installed professionally. Where would i look for the ground wire? and if it is lose, than what do i wrap it around??

thanks,Got an oil change other day, and my subwoofer stopped working properly!! did they mess with the ground wire?If you took it to a regular shop or dealer, they probably did mess up your wires, simply so you can go back to have every wire gone through at $60/hour. (They also like to loosen the bolts on the oil pans very slightly so you can bring it back to them to find an oil leak or for a new engine.) The ground wire will be a big black wire and it should be wrapped around a bolt, maybe under a seat.Got an oil change other day, and my subwoofer stopped working properly!! did they mess with the ground wire? The only wat that they could have messed with your grounding wire is if your amp was installed under your hood, which I seriously doubt. If is your ground wire then there would be no sound at all, not some crakling sound. Once your ground wire has a bad connection, it stops the amp from working until that connection is fixed.Got an oil change other day, and my subwoofer stopped working properly!! did they mess with the ground wire?when installing an amplifier you always install the ground wire as short as possible for less resistance, therefore giving you a proper ground, even if you had the system installed somewhere you should know where your amp is, just go the amp look where the black wire is an trace it, however if you do not have a proper ground your amp will not turn on anyway, if you cannot troubleshoot the problem take it back, it could very easily be a loose wire within the sub box, something that simple!

How to DO an RSX Oil Change?

Aight... Heres the thing.. My co-worker showed me abit on where the Filter is and i was like FAWK... in the Middle bak of my engine.. Also, i have no clue what to get in the STORE to do an Oil Change.. alot of people said its better to do it your self cuz you save money... SO i need help...

1st- Things to buy at the Store?? Oil, Filter, Gloves?? etc...

2nd- the Steps on changing my oil in my car... ok.. ttyl peaceHow to DO an RSX Oil Change?Home oil change=bad idea. You're only saving yourself 5-10 dollars max and it's potentially dangerous. I have a place down the street where I get my O.C. for 17 bucks out the door. 4 qts of oil and a filter will cost you 13-14 bucks. Plus, getting filthy and spilling oil everywhere is unavoidable and really bad on the environment.

    MOST IMPORTANT:

If you aren't 100% sure what you are doing, don't do it. You can very easily damage or destroy your engine by:

    1. Leaving the old gasket from the oil filter on without realizing it, and the oil will drain out while you're driving down the road.

    2. Not putting enough oil in the motor

    3. Putting too much oil in the motor.

    4. Overtightening the drain bolt and cracking the pan

    5. Undertightening, and the bolt vibrates out a day later.....

You can also kill yourself by using the wrong type of lift, like the one in the trunk of your car. A strong gust of wind can literally cause your car to fall and it will kill you.

NOT worth it!How to DO an RSX Oil Change?Take it to the shop and have it done right. Make sure you watch what they are doing to.

I took my car to get an oil change and was told I had fluids leaking everywhere. Now what do I do?

The guy topped off all of my fluids. On the receipt under comments he wrote:

    %26quot;Massive leaks everywhere. Remain seal, oil pan, power steering. Engine oil leak noted.%26quot;

I don't know what that means. Will it cost a lot to get those things patched up so they stop leaking? He said there was about 1/4 of oil left so he didn't give me an oil change; he said he would give it an hour before it was down to 1/4 again. I have no idea how this could've happened. I am clueless about cars, my parents are very unhelpful, and none of my friends can help either.I took my car to get an oil change and was told I had fluids leaking everywhere. Now what do I do?Take your car to another mechanic for a second opinion. If the second opinion concurs with the first, you could be looking at several thousand dollars of repairs. What is the make, model and year of the car? You may want to take it to the dealer for the second opinion since they specialize in your car, but don't get the work done at the dealer because they usually overcharge for work.I took my car to get an oil change and was told I had fluids leaking everywhere. Now what do I do?You definitely need a second opinion. Unfortunately, even in this day and age, women still get taken advantage of. Try finding out if there is a high school/community college with an auto shop program, they are not out for profit.I took my car to get an oil change and was told I had fluids leaking everywhere. Now what do I do?Go to an auto parts store and ask them for a can of stop leak for the engine oil.Put it in and let it work for a week and check it out again.I took my car to get an oil change and was told I had fluids leaking everywhere. Now what do I do?Most likely they noted this so if your engine locked up or your power steering stopped working, they were covered by telling you about the leaks.I took my car to get an oil change and was told I had fluids leaking everywhere. Now what do I do?Take u r vehicle to a real mechanic b 4 doing anythingI took my car to get an oil change and was told I had fluids leaking everywhere. Now what do I do?They could be saying that to try to bring you back for more work done to your car. That's how some places suck the money out of you.

Take your car to someone else and have them do a %26quot;check up%26quot; on your car, but don't tell them about the %26quot;massive leaks%26quot; Just tell them that you think you have a small leak of some kind, and let them look and see what they tell you.. if they say the same thing about the %26quot;massive%26quot; leaks, then you might wanna get those leaks fixed.. if not, then just keep an eye on your oil level and see for yourself if the oil level drops any.

If you get an oil change, and you notice something different about your car, what recourse do you have?

I took my car to the dealership for an oil change last week. I took it there, because i know how mechanics play, to keep you coming back making them rich. I thought the dealership would be better since they sell the cars you make, and depend on their reputation for repeat customers. Well, i notice the my engine check light keeps coming on. It never did that until the oil change. I talk to the service guy, and he stated it could be anything. Come in for a diagnostic test. He said it will cost 50 bucks. I told him, no way i'm paying that since i think you are the casue of the problem. Well, he said that because my car is under 60k miles that its still under warranty and that the diagnostice test would be free. What if the diagnostice test find something, do i still pay to get my light back to the way it was? Should i pay? What would you do?If you get an oil change, and you notice something different about your car, what recourse do you have?Sometime a check engine light can come because a cap or lid on something isn't closed tight enough... even if you leave your gas cap too loose the light will come on. Go get the scan if they tell you do lots of work... get a second %26amp; third opinion. and don't tell the second and third people that anything is wrong, just tell them you want to check up on your car. then you'll see if they are telling the truth. If they are lying call your local news station to investigate and teach those jerks a lesson. If you get an oil change, and you notice something different about your car, what recourse do you have?lite is unrelated to oil change....get scan...[which is free at any auto parts store by the way] see whats off...the test should reset it...dont %26quot;go off%26quot; until u see whats wrong...gd luk ,,,those prick dealers getting 50 to 100 for a test burns me up...If you get an oil change, and you notice something different about your car, what recourse do you have? It's highly unlikely that the mechanic did anything to your car during the oil change that would cause the check engine light to come on and off periodically.

The check engine light comes on if there is an emissions related problem. The emissions are under warranty. You should take the car in and have it fixed. Since it's under warranty, they'll do it for free.If you get an oil change, and you notice something different about your car, what recourse do you have?Get the diagnostics done. Its very possible that the %26quot;check engine%26quot; light and the oil change are completely coincidental. Its possible that whatever is causing the check engine light to come on will also be under warranty. If you get an oil change, and you notice something different about your car, what recourse do you have? It`s a machine and parts do wear out. It has nothing to do with the oil change . If they scan it and find something wrong , it may or may not be under warranty. Costs nothing to have it checked out , then you decide if you want it fixed. If you get an oil change, and you notice something different about your car, what recourse do you have?I'm not taking the side of the dealer here, but you may just be the victim of bad timing. If the diagnostic is covered under warranty, let them do it. The fix may just be covered under under warranty, too. If the problem is caused by something strange, I might be a little skeptical. If you get an oil change, and you notice something different about your car, what recourse do you have?Sounds like you car is still under warranty so take back for a dealer fix. If you take anywhere else you may void warranty. If you have problems with that dealer then take to another or call the manufacture warranty rep. to arbitrate your problem.

How much oil does a 1964 Ford F100 Pickup need in an oil change?

I just got a 1964 Ford F100 Pickup truck. Runs great but of course I want to give it an oil change. Already changed all the filters (except oil filter).

I don't know how much oil it will need for an oil change. If someone can tell me and give solid reference to a reputable place, I would greatly appreciate it! I also need to know WHAT KIND of oil to use also.

Some notes: If I'm not mistaken, its a 305 V8 or something along those lines. I'm not sure how to find out this info, I was told 305 by the previous owner. How much oil does a 1964 Ford F100 Pickup need in an oil change?Between 4 and 5 quarts of 10W40 will get the job done. How much oil does a 1964 Ford F100 Pickup need in an oil change?i WOULD LOOK AT THE MANUAL IT HAS IT LISTED IF LOSTED LOOK IT UP ON THE INTERANATHow much oil does a 1964 Ford F100 Pickup need in an oil change?Depends on the weather conditions - hot or cold weather-- Mileage on engine - normally 5 Qts. with a filter change..type of driving - highway - round town..How much oil does a 1964 Ford F100 Pickup need in an oil change? The oil capacity of most automobile and light truck engines from the 60's was five (5) quarts including the filter. If you are a little unsure, then I suggest that you remove and replace the filter, put in four (4) quarts of oil, run the engine for a few minutes to circulate the oil and then check the oil level on the dipstick. You will probably notice that you are low by about a quart. Add enough oil to bring the level up to the %26quot;full%26quot; mark on the dipstick.

By the way, the 302 engine was not available in 1964. If the truck had a V8, then it was probably a 260 or a 352. These engines are relatively easy to identify and tell apart; but in any event, they both probably only use five quarts with a filter change. How much oil does a 1964 Ford F100 Pickup need in an oil change? If it's a 302 Ford engine, it's been transplanted into the truck since it wasn't introduced until '67. The 305 is a SB Chevy engine.

If it's an original FE block, it's most likely a 352. Take a look at the intake manifold and see if it bolts to the heads under the valve covers - if so, it's an FE engine. I think the best thing for you to do is to find a mechanic who is familiar with the early Ford engines and ask him to take a look. A truck that

old may have had several owners and an equal number of modifications.

It sounds like a fun ride - good luck. How much oil does a 1964 Ford F100 Pickup need in an oil change?Five quarts. If it is the original engine it is a 292, an easy way to tell is look at the exhaust manifolds. If they are connected together with a pipe that runs across the front of the engine, it is a 292 (or possibly a 312).How much oil does a 1964 Ford F100 Pickup need in an oil change?a 305 is a chevy engine, its probably a 302, they put alot of 302s in vehicles back then and still do today. ok, about your oil. it probably takes at least 5 or 6 qts. with a new filter. about the oil, they are many types of good oil on the market, but quaker state is not 1 of them. myself, i have always used pennzoil 10w30 and never had a problem once with it, but also vavoline is good, havoline isnt a bad oil either. How much oil does a 1964 Ford F100 Pickup need in an oil change?got to autozone.com But It should take 6 quarts of oil with filter change. http://www.autozone.com/Action,specsSele

Click on the above link and then click on crank case capacity. If it is a V8 and original engine the it is a 4.8 Liter.

If it is a model with one of those gadgets, try this...

Look at your fuse panel and there should be a circle button that says oil/reset. Turn your key to %26quot;on%26quot; and hold that button in until you hear a chime and this should turn off the light. How do I turn the change oil light off in my car?To reset the light, open the driver's side fuse panel cover. Turn the key to %26quot;on%26quot;, but do not start the car. Wait for most of the warning lights to go out, then press the red RESET button in the center of the fuse panel. The %26quot;Change Oil%26quot; light should flash. Then, press and hold the RESET button until the car chimes. Then, turn the key back to %26quot;off%26quot;, and replace the fuse panel cover. How long should an oil change take? How can I tell the oil's been changed?

For some odd reason, my dealership has been acting weird. I was told that an oil change took about an hour, also.

I brought my bike in around 9 in the morning, and was standing around, looking at other bikes. Well, about 20 minutes later, the service guy tells me that it's done. This seemed awfully odd.

I was just wondering why he told me that it'd be about an hour when it only took 20 minutes. Maybe it's just me, but I'm wondering if they simply charged me for the oil change, but didn't actually perform it... :(

Also, how can I tell that the oil's been changed? It's a Yamaha V-Star Custom 650, so it doesn't have a dipstick, it's got a window to view the oil level. Can anyone help me out here? Thanks! How long should an oil change take? How can I tell the oil's been changed? The dealership is not acting weird. They usually overstate the time it takes to do the job. If they had told you 20 minutes and it took an hour you would probably get upset at them for taking longer than expected. If they get delayed for some reason they would still be able to get the job done before the estimated time.

Oil changes are not that hard to do. I do my own oil changes. I know that they are done correctly. I change the oil at about 3000 miles and always change the filter. It costs me about $20 to $30 depending on what kind of oil I use.How long should an oil change take? How can I tell the oil's been changed? There's no good way to tell with a window. Usually the fresh oil turns a darker shade very quickly after the engine is started.

It could only take 20 minutes though. They probably told you an hour because there might have been other bikes ahead of yours.

This is why I do my own oil changes. I know it is done right, it costs less, and I get the satisfaction of wrenching on my own bike. How long should an oil change take? How can I tell the oil's been changed? Two things. When you get an answer, email me, I need to know how too.

I got a Yamaha TT-R230 dirtbike, and just today, I wondered about the same thing. I need to know, if the level is right, I don't want to ruin it.

Hope this helps. How long should an oil change take? How can I tell the oil's been changed?1stly did he charge You an hours labour? It doesnt take an hour ...he may have been just allowing for getting the bike into the w/shop etc and not wanting to give You unrealistic promises of time You'd be waiting...2o mins is not unusual and the way to tell is to look at the window as soon as its been done as the new oil will be a lighter colour and appear a little thicker than before...I would imagine most dealers/garages have a minimum charge which may be an Hour so theres no use arguing with that if it took less it just means U dont get held around longer than necessary.nb Its worth changing the oil filter every 3rd oil change and oil changes are the life of any engine so The more the merrier(within reason) depending on the engine size...oil capacity .For your bike I'd recommend a change about every 5-8thousand miles wont do any harm and will definitely prolong the life expectancy.....How long should an oil change take? How can I tell the oil's been changed?Service departments always have a standard %26quot;by the book%26quot; length of time they'll tell you for how long something should take...usually a good service guy or gal can do things much faster. The %26quot;by the book%26quot; time is what they will always tell you just in case there's some worst case scenario that comes up.

I've changed the oil on my own bike (and I'm certainly not a professional!) and it only took me about 30 minutes.

You can tell the oil's been changed because before the change, the oil in the window would appear to be a dark, almost black, color; afterward, it'll be a translucent honey amber color.

I am not sure why some moron gave him a thumbs down for that answer, it is 100% correct. If you don't have your manual, call the dealership they will gladly tell you. If the oil was changed at the dealership as it should have been they should have reset it for you. The dipsticks at the jiffy lube probably haven't been shown the procedure yet.

Is a 7qts good for a 6qts engine? and how many WAL-MART car service techs needed to change oil incorrectly?

A few days ago (9/5/07) I went into the Wal-mart in Albuquerque,NM for a oil change. Well while they were doing a oil change I notice the service tech putting in 7qts of oil in my 95'Jeep Grande Cheeoke(Straght 6/ 4.0L). I went in the tec bay and asked him what the hell he was doing? He claimed that the dip stick showed that it still needed another qt. Well after aruging with the them over twenty min to take out one qt.I finnly had enought and paid for a oil change with extra oil. Well to make along story shorter. I still have seven qts of oil in my six qt engine. I have driven about four hundred mile and have to drive another 50 to the dealer to get another oil change. Besides another oil change what should I ask the the dealer to do. Should the dealer do to a compression test or what.? On the second question I now know the answer. ONE IS TO MANY!!! DONT LET WAL-MART CLOSE TO YOUR F****** CAR, TRUCK, OR SUV.Is a 7qts good for a 6qts engine? and how many WAL-MART car service techs needed to change oil incorrectly? It won't hurt it. The worst thing that can happen by having too much oil in the engine is if the level is up high enough for the crankshaft to touch it. This can cause the motor to run out of balance and sling excessive oil in the crankcase which you would more than likely be able to see in the form of smoke since the wiper ring on the piston usually cannot keep this amount of oil from entering the combustion chamber. In other words, if you haven't seen smoke coming out of the tailpipe, don't sweat it.Is a 7qts good for a 6qts engine? and how many WAL-MART car service techs needed to change oil incorrectly? If the stick is not past the full line its fine,if it's past it drop some out,i never have anyone change my oil i do it my self becuse of this kind of stuff. Is a 7qts good for a 6qts engine? and how many WAL-MART car service techs needed to change oil incorrectly?just drain out a quart and let it go. no compression test or anything needed. just check dipstick (the one in the engine, not the wallywrld tech) level and drain accordingly.

keep in mind u r dealing with minimum wage employees here, they only do what wage they get. yes they r cheaper, but sometimes at what cost later? i haven't bought anything at wallywrld in 5yrs and i haven't died yet.Is a 7qts good for a 6qts engine? and how many WAL-MART car service techs needed to change oil incorrectly? The biggest problem with overfilling your oil capacity is that many times the bottom of the crankshaft will %26quot;splash%26quot; in the extra iol causing it to become foamy. The oil pump is at that point pumping oil bubbles that are mostly air and air doesn't lubricate very well. It can cause your engine a sever amount of wear in a very short time. Look at your dipstick after the engine has run for a minute or two and see if the oil is foamy or if it looks like a smooth oil layer. If it's foamy Do not run the engine and get the extra quart of oil removed. If it's a smooth layer of oil just drive it to the dealer and get the extra oil removed. Is a 7qts good for a 6qts engine? and how many WAL-MART car service techs needed to change oil incorrectly?6 quarts

    (w/filter, all engines)

NOT 7. And of course you knew that. So the question is, why did you even drive it out of the store overfilled, let alone 400 miles?

Assuming they used decent oil, you don't need another change, you just needed it brought down to the proper level.

So, what damage could you have done? Overfilling causes the oil to foam which can put the engine at risk. To quote from one of my service bulletins:

Over filling the oil can be a slight problem or a big problem depending on how much it was overfilled. The problem with overfilling comes when the crankshaft hits the oil. The crankshaft turns the oil into a foam, kind of like the head on a beer, and that is what circulates through the oil system. Since this foam is mostly air, the moving parts of the engine don't get sufficient lubrication and are damaged.

So the real question is, did the oil get high enough that the crank was slapping it and foaming it? If you didn't notice any smoke from the exhaust or over heating, you may have dodged the bullet this time.

Tell the dealer what happened, and let them check it out. Unfortunately you may not be able to go back on the Wal-Mart oil change folks for damages because you didn't do things you should have done to lessen damage. In other words, YOU are the one who drove it 400 miles knowing it was overfilled. Is a 7qts good for a 6qts engine? and how many WAL-MART car service techs needed to change oil incorrectly?just drain out 1 quartIs a 7qts good for a 6qts engine? and how many WAL-MART car service techs needed to change oil incorrectly?Well, here goes nothing...

Most engines will accomodate an extra 1/2 quart over the capacity listed in the owners manual.

This is because there is always a 1/2 quart in circulation while the motor is running.

One extra quart will not likely do anything. If the crankshaft was splashing in the oil you would notice power loss and the oil would be full of tiny bubbles when you pull the dipstick.

I had a customer come in after leaving a oil quick lube place and the technician was stumped until he told me that oil came out of the breather tube when he pulled it off to look in the valve cover. He kept pulling the dipstick and wiping it and I told him the engine is not just full, it's full-full to the top with oil. They had forgotten to drain the oil pan before dumping another five quarts in it.

Another guy came in where the oil change guy had spilled oil on the engien and then took it to the do it youself wash to clena the engine and flooded the electrical system. He cranked it for several minutes telling the customer that it wil start, they always start. All of a sudden %26quot;BOOM!%26quot; the whole exhaust system exploded when it finally threw a spark and the flash ignited all of the unburned fuel in the exhaust.

You got off easy. Thank your lucky stars. The worst that can happen in a %26quot;really full%26quot; engine is that you can float a bearing on the cranshaft or connecting rod.

    One quart is no biggy.

    Good Luck!

Is the expensive synthetic oil change service a waste of money for an older car that burns oil?

I live in Ohio and have an older vehicle. 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis. Pretty positive the car isn't leaking oil (likely burning it). Though I don't see any smoke, so maybe it leaks. I change the oil every 6 months. For the last few years it ALWAYS runs out of oil between changes. I'm new at this and have been remembering to check the dipstick and add oil. Should I go longer between oil changes since I'm adding new (clean) oil? If not, why? How often does the fuel filter need changing? Am I wasting my money paying $40-$50 for the expensive synthetic oil change service? Is the expensive synthetic oil change service a waste of money for an older car that burns oil?You should definitely resolve your loss of engine oil problem before using a synthetic oil. You are however, taking the best possible action by keeping check on your oil level. Synthetic oil is used to prevent the types of problems you are describing. Save the money from the synthetic oil change service and use it to have your oil loss problem repaired. Once resolved, then consider changing to a synthetic oil.

The fuel filter generally needs to be changed once a year on high mileage vehicles. Is the expensive synthetic oil change service a waste of money for an older car that burns oil?I believe you are wasting money. Synthetic oil will also make oil leaks worse. I learned this by calling and talking to a rep at Mobil 1.Is the expensive synthetic oil change service a waste of money for an older car that burns oil?Yes indeed it is a waste of your money buying Synthetic oil what you need to buy is High Mileage oil. Most old companies have a high mileage oil now. Valvoline and all other name brand oils are good.Is the expensive synthetic oil change service a waste of money for an older car that burns oil?i own a 1994 crown victoria that has the same engine and does that i never change the oil in it because it always run out or burn up so yes it would be a waste to put synthetic in there since its not going to stay in there anyways just change the oil filter every so often no need to change the oilIs the expensive synthetic oil change service a waste of money for an older car that burns oil?yes because if it,s burning oil then it,s going to burn the high price oil the same as the cheap brand. in your case i would just buy the cheap oil like dollar general and change the oil filter until you can figure out where the oil is going to. here,s a thought.look under the valve pans.maybe the drain holes are clogged up.Is the expensive synthetic oil change service a waste of money for an older car that burns oil?I would just use a good conventional oil not synthetic. 10-40 and keep changing at regular intervals ( 4-5000) miles checking regularly. adding as needed. fuel filters every 20,000- 30,000 miles. Is the expensive synthetic oil change service a waste of money for an older car that burns oil?The oil change interval is the same as when the engine is in good condition. If you don't change the oil the sludge will build up, as I saw in my mother's car that went through a quart of oil every hundred miles. I suppose the gunk that settles into the pan never gets burned and just builds up. And after all, only oil that has made it through the filter (leaving behind everything the filter holds out) gets leaked or burned.

I agree about the value of a high mileage oil for a worn out engine (but not for a high mileage engine that is not burning oil). Synthetic would definitely be a waste of money.

Unless you have been having trouble with dirty gas, changing the fuel filter every five years is plenty. I have never personally seen a blocked fuel filter on a fuel injected engine, but lots of them on carbureted engines. Injector fuel filters are generally much bigger. Is the expensive synthetic oil change service a waste of money for an older car that burns oil?yes if it leak it or burns it no reason to add high price oil

kind of late to be worrying about protection now

a heavier grade oil might slow it slow

    say you use 5w30

    go to 10w30

changer filter more important than changing the oil but should do both at same time

    20 dollar oil change

5000 to 8000 miles with any oil type

if your adding a lot of oil waste of time to change it say moe than a quart between oil changes your changing oil by adding and thats a sign its about all over withIs the expensive synthetic oil change service a waste of money for an older car that burns oil?Use the cheaper oil but one word of caution.

Condensation in the crankcase adds a certain amount of water to the oil and never changing your oil will cause the amount of water to build, especially if you don't take a couple of hour trip to burn off the water.

I would change oil at least every year.Is the expensive synthetic oil change service a waste of money for an older car that burns oil?For the most part your wasting your money when it costs about $15-$20 to do it yourself, Also you should be putting high mileage oil in your car which will help clean your valves, and you should not wait longer between oil changes...Just because your putting new oil in your car, doesn't let all the nasty stuff collecting in your oil pan out...If your car is burning oil your valves are sticking or oil is getting past the piston rings and burning....

How to do an oil change on 2007 Corolla ?

What are the steps to do an oil change for a 2007 Toyota Corolla ?

I was thinking of these steps in order:

1- use a 2 ton floor jack to jack up the front end

2- place a 2 ton jack stand for support

    3- drain the oil

4- make the car even level so all the oil goes out

5- replace the oil filter with a new oil filter

6- put the screw back on

7- fill 4 quartz of oil and turn on the car for 5 minutes

8- turn off the car and let it cool down for 5 minutes

9- check the dipper to see if its enough oil. If not add more oil

    10- finish ??

Are those steps for oil change ? Am i missing any critical steps ?

And should I synthetic oil or regular oil ?

And what brand of oil are good for my car ?

I heard Mobil 1 are good.

And what brand of oil filter are good ?

I mostly see Fram oil filter.

    Please help me

Thanks everyoneHow to do an oil change on 2007 Corolla ?The best part of your procedure is the safety %26quot;jack stands%26quot;. They are the first thing you have to have to do the job safely. You also need some wheel chocks to make sure the vehicle doesn't roll off the jack stands, just like when you jack up the car. But another option is to use %26quot;Rhino Ramps%26quot; and drive the car up onto the ramps. Then place the jack stands under the car frame. It takes a little practice and a helper sometimes. The best value is a synthetic blend, but a pure synthetic such as Mobil One can't be beat. Use the original equipment oil filter from your dealer for the best job. Have a friend around to save you in an emergency that can use the floor jack.

http://www.rhinoramps.com/product.htmlHow to do an oil change on 2007 Corolla ?thats all good accept for a couple things, (sorry if i've assumed too much) do you know where and how to open the drain (where it is), did you know that when you put the new filter on that you should dip the seal in oil, do you know how tight to put the filter on, when you drain the oil you should have it warm so more comes out and it comes out faster (watchout it can burn), do you know how tight to put the drain plug in. is 4 quarts the right amount of oil (you can fry an engine if you have too much or little) these are important things if you don't know any for sure just have it done at a shopHow to do an oil change on 2007 Corolla ?You pretty much sum it up there.

You need to be careful of a few things.

When you jack up the car, make sure you dont place the jack on the sump,as it will crush it. Use the crossmember as it is structural.

When you remove the oil filter, use a clean rag and wipe over the surface the filter contacts with to remove excess dirty oil.

When I install a oil filter, I always fill it with oil first. Not needed, but it gives the oil pump fresh oil straight away. Make sure you do smear some oil (not heaps, just dip your finger in the bottle a little) around the rubber gasket on the oil filter.

Be careful not to cross thread the oil filter as they are only a alloy thread and can strip out easily. Dont over tighten too. Never use a wrench to do the filter up. The oil filter should be tightened as far as it can be by hand, then a extra 1/4 turn maybe. Dont bust yourself trying to tighten it.How to do an oil change on 2007 Corolla ?Be forewarned, many oil changes turn into nightmares! Over the years I've had filters that would not budge [removed in pieces, finishing w/hammer %26amp; chisel], a filter that pulled the nipple out with it, new filters that didn't fit etc. I've seen oil miss the drain pan, drain plugs round off %26amp;/or strip etc. I've seen other people pull the wrong plug or, on 2-sump system, miss 1, etc. Please consider these things before getting into the job.

As for oil choice, run Shell Rotella-T, 15W40 unless you're in a really cold climate. It has better lubricity than synthetics. Hot Rod magazine did a multi-page article about oils, particularly as they relate to camshaft wear, a few months back. Basically car oil is getting worse, due to emission requirements on new cars, diesel oil is still carrying the max amount of what provides lubrication, which is what all, especially used %26amp; older, cars need.

  • I paid for an oil change and they never did the service?

    I paid $175.00 for an oil change 3 weeks ago. A day after I picked up the car, I checked my on board computer, it stated the oil was overdue and never changed. I called my service adviser right away to address the issue and his response was %26quot; the tech must have forgot to reset the computer, don't worry we did the service just bring it in when you have time and we will reset the sensor since we forgot to do it.%26quot;

    I brought the car in last saturday and asked them to reset the sensor. They said %26quot;Since this is not an emergency, we don't have time to do it.%26quot;

Well today, my car was having serious issues. I had to have it towed to a local mechanic. He said the issue with the car is the oil. He told me the oil has not been changed for a very long time.

3 weeks ago I paid BMW of San Diego $175.00 to change the oil. I was having doubts they ever did it due to the fact they did not reset the computer. Now I know for a fact they charged me $175.00 for something that was never done.

    I called BMW of San Diego and spoke to the general manager and they said %26quot;you must be making a mistake, we may have forgot to reset the computer but we did the oil change. We would never cheat a customer%26quot;

Well they did, and that customer is out of $175.00

Since they will not admit to their mistake, how do I get this resolved? SmoochesI paid for an oil change and they never did the service?Take the car back to them and have them check the oil in your presence.I paid for an oil change and they never did the service? It would have been good if you had checked the oil after the change. It's very easy and necessary to do. You can tell by the look and smell of the oil on the dipstick if the oil is old or new. You'll probably have to take them to court, but it could have been avoided by taking a minute to check your own oil. Being a car owner, being proactive always saves you money.lI paid for an oil change and they never did the service? It is a simple matter to prove whether or not they changed the oil. Just send an oil sample to an independent oil analysis lab -- one like Blackstone Laboratories -- and have the oil analyzed.

But do you really think a dealership would risk losing their franchise license to gain nickel-and-dime profits from a fraudulent practice such as that which would be easily detected by any customer with the common sense to pull the dipstick and look at the oil level and the color and clarity of the oil when they pick up their car? Think about it. Would petty fraud to gain nickel-and-dime profits be worth the risk of losing a multi-million dollar franchise license which could be proven as easily as pulling the dipstick?
