How do u know ur car needs an oil change?

i am currently driving a used 2005 dodge neon sxt. when i bought it, it had only 10,450 miles. i got the oil change done at 12,260 miles. i have been told i should get the oil change done partcularly for this car every 5000 miles, but some say evcer 3000 miles. would anything happen to your car if you didnt get an oil change reguarly? How do u know ur car needs an oil change? For a longer car life and a better re-selling point, it's best to change it around the 3000 mile mark. It's not mandatory, but it is better for your car. Not changing your oil can have serious consequences, but they come much later than 5000. If you tend to drive a lot it's best to change it and keep an eye on oil levels. When I was driving home from college a lot I noticed that I had to put in oil in between oil changes simply because I had an older car and I was running it a lot. How do u know ur car needs an oil change?in the long run you will have engine trouble.. i change mine every 2500 personally but 3,000 to 4,000 is a good time...How do u know ur car needs an oil change? If you didn't change it regularly between 3000 and 5000 nothing would happen. To change it every 3000 is really a waste the extra 2000 miles does not damage whatsoever. Don't panic if you don't hit it at 5000 exactly either change it at 5000 to 5500.How do u know ur car needs an oil change?you have a pretty good idea by looking at the stick. if it,s getting black, it,s time to change it.How do u know ur car needs an oil change?if you drive stop/go then change the oil more often, every 2500 miles. The same is true if you drive mostly short trips, maybe 10 miles or less.

if you drive mostly freeway over 10 mile trips then 5000 is fine.

Short trips makes the oil dirtier faster %26amp; it loses its ability to lubricate properly.

How do u know ur car needs an oil change? You're supposed to change your oil every 5,000 miles on a car like that. An oil and filter change is only like $25-30 so I would reccomend doing it often. What you'll save in not paying for more frequent oil changes, you'll spend in engine repair a while down the road.
